Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips picked up his fourth save of the season in Monday's 4-2 win over the Twins. Phillips entered the game to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. The 29-year-old has been excellent to start the season, converting all four save opportunities with a 1.59 ERA and an 11.52 K/9 rate. Even more encouraging, Phillips has seen the majority of save opportunities for the Dodgers. Hopefully, the team will continue to treat him as a more traditional closer to the benefit of fantasy managers.
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips was summoned for the final four outs of Tuesday's victory versus the San Francisco Giants. During his 1 1/3 innings, Phillips allowed one hit and struck out a pair with no walks or runs. The 29-year-old has now appeared in four games and recorded three saves without allowing a run. Not only is Phillips one of the best closers in the game, it helps that he is on one of the best teams in the league and that should allow him to have plenty of save opportunities moving forward. The righty can safely be started as one of the top closers in the game at the moment.
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips earned a save Friday in a 6-3 win over the Cardinals. The 29-year-old retired all three batters he faced, striking out one and picking up his second save of the season, the first of which came in the Seoul Series over a week ago. He's yet to allow a hit through his first two appearances and has two total Ks now. The righty was superb for the Dodgers last season and is riding some strong spring momentum into the regular season. Phillips gave up one hit in his first spring appearance, but not a single hit over his next five, ending the spring with a 0.00 ERA and 1:9 BB:K in six IP. He's a top-12 option at the position with some upside pitching for one of the best teams in baseball.
Los Angeles Dodgers closer Evan Phillips recorded his first save of the 2024 campaign against the division rival San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea. Phillips worked a perfect 1-2-3 inning and recorded one strikeout. Phillips was perfect in five scoreless innings this spring and is coming off a strong 2023 season that saw him lock down 24 saves in 61 1/3 innings with 66 strikeouts. Phillips will serve as the closer for one of the best teams in baseball and should be one of the top closers taken off the board with plenty of opportunities ahead.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager stopped short of naming right-hander Evan Phillips the team's closer, but he said that Phillips will get "the brunt" of the save chances in the ninth inning this year. The Dodgers have been rumored to be considering bringing back Kenley Jansen in a trade with the Boston Red Sox, but for now, they appear to be leaning with the 29-year-old Phillips as their primary closer in 2024. He deserves it after a dominant 2023 campaign, when he recorded a 1.74 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with a career-high 24 saves in 27 chances and 152 strikeouts over 134 2/3 innings for the Blue. Unless the Dodgers bring in someone else before Opening Day for the back end of their bullpen, Phillips will be a high-end closing target for fantasy managers on one of the best teams in baseball.
