New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo (forearm) is reportedly making slow progress, according to manager Aaron Boone. The lefty slugger has been restricted to mainly weight training since going down in the middle of June. He suffered a right forearm fracture, so it's going to take time to heal. Rizzo says that he's making progress but there is still pain in his forearm. It doesn't sound like he'll be making an impact in the Yankees lineup anytime soon. Ben Rice has been seeing an increased look at first base while Rizzo is sidelined.

Manager Aaron Boone said before Thursday's game against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays that Rizzo was doing some work in the weight room but is "still pretty restricted" following his right forearm fracture. After being placed on the 60-day injured list on June 19, the 34-year-old former All-Star is not eligible to return until mid-August and was batting under the Mendoza Line over his last 30 games before going on the shelf. Rookie Ben Rice has been a decent source of pop and is worth a look in all fantasy leagues in Rizzo's stead, however, slashing .254/.333/.522 with five home runs, three doubles, and 16 RBI through 78 plate appearances.

Rizzo now has a hit in six of his last seven games and increased his OPS to .772 on the season. The lefty has been on a tear over the last two weeks, hitting for a .296 BA and a .926 OPS. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Rizzo if he's available on the waiver wire and snag him up if possible. DFS managers should continue to target Rizzo against righties as he's hitting them for an .878 OPS. Rizzo will look to continue his hot streak on Saturday against Rays right-hander Zach Littell.

New York Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo will retreat to the bench on Sunday in the series finale against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Tarik Skubal. With Rizzo on the bench, Oswaldo Cabrera will start at first and hit ninth, with Jon Berti manning the hot corner and hitting seventh in the batting order. This will be Rizzo's first off day of the year after starting all 35 games to begin the season. The 34-year-old veteran slugger has had a strong year to this point, batting .263 (35-for-133) with six home runs, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored in his first 146 plate appearances. However, he's hitting just .175 (7-for-40) with no homers and 10 strikeouts against southpaws, so it makes sense to give him his first day off of the year against a tough lefty on Sunday. Neither Berti nor Cabrera will be particularly attractive low-cost DFS sleepers against Skubal.

Rizzo also had a single, finishing the day 2-for-4 and bringing his batting average to .263. The 3x All-Star has collected at least one RBI in three straight games now, bringing his season total to 20, and has also scored 16 times. With a .338 wOBA and 122 wRC+, the veteran is having a solid season thus far. He'll have a difficult matchup in Sunday's series finale, facing off with LHP Tarik Skubal, although Rizzo is 1-for-3 with a double and no strikeouts against the southpaw in his career.
