The Best NHL Prop Bets

Wyatt Johnston Point

(-105, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Johnston and Jamie Benn worked out for us Tuesday, and they’ve been working out for us for a couple of weeks now. Both players looked very good against a weak San Jose Sharks team earlier this week, which isn’t surprising, but the chemistry between these two is very strong. Johnston is nearly even money for a point and all he’s done is pick up 13 goals and 24 points in his last 20 games. Benn checks in on a seven-game point streak and five-game goal streak. He has points in 15 of his past 18 games and 22 total over that span. Benn has been awesome with Johnston at 5v5, plus he’s on the first power play unit for Dallas. The veteran has seven power play points this month. The matchup in Vancouver is tougher than Tuesday’s, and Casey DeSmith has been strong filling in for Thatcher Demko, but these prices for Johnston and Benn are tough to pass up given their form. I also like Dallas to go into Vancouver and come away with a win.

Bonus

Gustav Nyquist Point

(-135, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Another point and another win for the Nashville Predators Tuesday. I hate to sound like a broken record here, but let’s continue to take what Vegas gives us when it comes to the Nyquist. The winger is fresh off a two-point game, and he enters Thursday on a six-game point streak. After only registering four points in his first 10 games, Nyquist has racked up 61 in his last 62 games.

Nashville has points in 18 straight games since losing 9-2 to Dallas Feb. 15. In the month of March at 5v5/60, the Preds rank fourth in shot attempts, third in shots, fifth in scoring chances and high danger chances, and they are fourth in goals (3.36/60), according to Natural Stat Trick. Meanwhile, Arizona ranks in the top 10 in shot attempts and scoring chances allowed. Jason Zucker is my longshot NHL prop from this game, and it has nothing to do with this being a revenge spot. The matchup is nice, but Zucker also has at least three shots on goal in six of his last eight games with the Preds.

Bonus

Shane Pinto Point

(-120, DraftKings Sportsbook)

We may be a day too late on Pinto, but I’m willing to find out at this price. Pinto had a goal and four points last night, and that’s not the only reason I’m on him but it certainly helps. The Senators’ center has been skating on the first line since Ottawa lost Josh Norris for the season, and he’s played very well in that role. Pinto has eight goals and 25 points in 30 games. He’s averaging a career-high 17:40, which is nearly two more minutes per game than he received last season. He’s also averaging a career-best 2.9 shots per game this season compared to 1.9 a season ago. The Pinto, Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson line combined for three goals, eight points and 10 shots on goal in their 6-2 win in Buffalo. Too little too late for the Sens, but they’ve scored 16 goals over their current three-game winning streak. Good news for them as they get a Chicago Blackhawks squad that ranks fourth in goals allowed at 5v5/60 this month.

Bonus

Kirill Kaprizov Over 1.5 Points

(+124, DraftKings Sportsbook)

Yes, it’s time to pick on San Jose again. Kirill Kaprizov scored a hat trick on five shots the last time his Wild played the Sharks (March 3). I’m not calling another hatty for Kaprizov, but I think he’ll hit the score sheet a couple of times. He has points in nine of his last 10 games, and he has five multi-point games over that span. Overall, the winger has 34 points in his last 21 games, which is good for sixth in the NHL in points (since Feb. 8th). Kaprizov will get his center Joel Eriksson Ek back as well. Eriksson Ek has missed the last five games for the Wild. He’s extremely important to Minnesota, and he’ll take his top spot back between Kaprizov and Matt Boldy.
