Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 16 of 27 pass attempts (59%) for 154 yards and zero touchdowns in the 28-18 win against the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes threw two more interceptions in this contest, bringing his total to a league-leading eight interceptions despite already having his bye week. Mahomes found the endzone on a rushing touchdown against the Niners, but that was the only silver lining. Mahomes has been one of the worst draft picks at the quarterback position this season, and there is not much optimism that it will change since the Chiefs remain undefeated after six games. This game also marks his second straight game with zero passing touchdowns. Mahomes will look to right the ship against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8. The Raiders rank 26th in fantasy points allowed to the quarterback position this season, so it will be an advantageous situation for the Chiefs quarterback. That said, Mahomes has not been good for fantasy, and benching him is reasonable at this point.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. Mahomes and the Chiefs emerge from their Week 6 bye as one of two undefeated teams in the National Football League. Despite Kansas City's success, Mahomes has yet to be a top-end fantasy option at the quarterback position this season. Mahomes is averaging just 13.7 fantasy points per game in a 4-point per passing touchdown league. The Kansas City quarterback currently ranks as a low-end QB2, a far cry from where he was selected during draft season. Mahomes will have to take on a well-rounded Niners defense ranked 14th in fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. The San Francisco defense is more formidable against the run than the pass, so Mahomes may have to do more in this matchup, but Andy Reid has shown his dedication toward leaning on the run game this season. Until he proves otherwise, Mahomes should no longer be viewed as a top-12 quarterback option in fantasy football.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 28 of 39 pass attempts (72%) for 331 yards in their 26-13 win over the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. Despite reaching 300 passing yards for the first time this season, Mahomes did not have a single passing touchdown in this contest. The Chiefs quarterback also threw an interception for the fifth straight game, bringing his season total to six. Kansas City is one of only two teams to remain undefeated through five weeks, but Mahomes is not a QB1 based on his performances. The Chiefs will head into their bye week on a high note, but fantasy managers may need to consider starting a quarterback for the foreseeable future. Mahomes and the Chiefs are winning games with a style of play that is not conducive to fantasy success.
