Entering training camp this summer, The Athletic's Nate Taylor writes that quarterback Patrick Mahomes appears to have a lot more viable passing options than he did in 2023. Last year, the Chiefs started the season with Kadarius Toney as their No. 1. But this year, Toney will likely be fourth or fifth on the wideout depth chart. Mahomes showed promising chemistry with new pass-catcher Marquise Brown in OTAs and minicamp, and rookie Xavier Worthy should give the team a strong deep passing attack. Rookie tight end Jared Wiley has shown strong receiving skills behind Travis Kelce. Even if Rashee Rice is suspended as expected, Mahomes should have plenty of receivers that he trusts enter the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. As the Chiefs seek an unprecedented third straight championship, Mahomes is an easy top-four fantasy QB.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown signed a one-year deal with the organization this offseason, and he has been heavily involved in the passing attack during OTAs and minicamp. The 2019 first-round pick has a path to the No. 1 wide receiver role, especially with Rashee Rice's legal troubles and Xavier Worthy's (hamstring) injury that is keeping him out of practice. Brown said he is building chemistry with Patrick Mahomes early in camp. "It has been good, from when we first started going back in Dallas until now," Brown said. "Just keep improving. He's trusting me more, so that's good." While "Hollywood" has not lived up to his first-round status, he has a 1,000-yard season under his belt and has hauled in 313 passes for 3,644 yards, and 28 touchdowns through his first 72 games with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals. He's unlikely to be a volume hog with Kansas City, but he should have chances for several spike weeks catching passes from the best quarterback of his career.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be restructuring his contract to create an additional $21.6 million worth of salary cap space for the team in 2024 as they look to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, according to league sources. The move gives the Chiefs some wiggle room to add some players in free agency. It was rumored on Monday that they were interested in former Chicago Bears wideout Darnell Mooney, but he landed with the Atlanta Falcons in free agency. Kansas City could surely use another receiving weapon to help Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice in the passing game after the team's offense was the weakest its been under Mahomes in 2023. Behind Rice, none of Justin Watson, Skyy Moore, Justyn Ross or Kadarius Toney were reliable targets for Mahomes last year.
