The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are re-signing running back Chase Edmonds to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday, according to a source. Edmonds will return to Tampa in 2024 as a backfield complement to Rachaad White, who should continue to command most of the running back touches for the Bucs in 2024. The 27-year-old Edmonds played in only 13 games in his first year with Tampa in 2023 and had just 49 carries for 176 yards and no touchdowns, adding 14 receptions for an additional 81 yards through the air. Unless White suffers an injury, Edmonds will be little more than a deep-league handcuff in fantasy. The Buccaneers also have Sean Tucker in the RB room and could add to the position in the upcoming NFL draft.

He had been listed as questionable but was trending in the right direction after practicing in a limited capacity on Friday. Edmonds occupied a depth role behind Rachaad White this year, averaging 3.8 carries and 14.5 rushing yards per game during the regular season. In the opening round of the playoffs last week, he was more involved, rushing seven times while also adding an eight-yard reception.

Even if the 27-year-old is cleared to play this weekend, he's not much of an option for fantasy lineups in DFS as the clear backup to starter Rachaad White. Edmonds didn't have a single game during the regular season with double-digit half-PPR points. In total, he had 49 carries for 176 yards and no touchdowns. If Edmonds is unable to play against the Lions, rookie Sean Tucker would have a bigger role as the No. 2 behind White in an offense that prefers to throw the ball.
