Josh Jung Won't Return Until After All-Star Break

Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that the team is shutting down third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) until next week to rest his surgically repaired wrist. If all goes well, Jung could start a minor-league rehab assignment next week, but he won't return until after the All-Star break. This really isn't a big surprise after the 26-year-old right-handed power hitter had his swinging session pushed back over the weekend due to soreness in his right wrist. He has not swung a bat since June 20, but the good news is that he's not dealing with any structural damage. Jung played in just four games this year before injuring his wrist on a hit-by-pitch but he should be rostered in all fantasy formats in an injured-list spot until he returns. Josh Smith will continue to benefit from regular playing time at the hot corner in Texas while Jung is sidelined.

Josh Jung Still Not Swinging

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) said he's just taking everything day by day at this point and hasn't swung a bat since his last minor-league rehab game on June 20. Jung is still sore but everything remains fine structurally in his surgically repaired wrist after he visited with a specialist. While it's good news that Jung doesn't have any structural damage to his wrist, it's also frustrating and worrisome that he's still dealing with pain. At this point, there's no timetable for his return to a minor-league rehab assignment, let alone to the big-league roster. We wouldn't be surprised if Jung isn't back with the Rangers until August. Jung has proven to be injury-prone early in his career, but his elite power in a stacked Rangers lineup makes him stash-worthy in all fantasy formats. Josh Smith will continue to benefit from regular playing time for however long Jung remains on the shelf.

Josh Jung To Visit With Specialist

Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) had his hitting progression pushed back again on Saturday, with manager Bruce Bochy saying that Jung will visit with a specialist on Monday to evaluate the readiness of his surgically-repaired right wrist. Bochy said Jung will not test the wrist in batting practice this weekend as originally planned. Because he will require a ramp-up of at least seven to 10 days that could include more minor-league rehab games once he's medically cleared, the delay makes it possible that he won't be ready to return to Texas' active roster until after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old has been out since suffering a fractured right wrist on a hit-by-pitch on April 1 and had his first rehab assignment shut down last week due to a flare-up of tendon inflammation above the surgery site. Fantasy managers must remain patient and keep the right-handed slugger stashed in all leagues.
