Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) underwent tendon-release surgery on Tuesday and will start a normal offseason program in three to four weeks. Jung fractured his right wrist back in early April when he was hit by a pitch and missed four months as a result. When the 26-year-old right-handed-hitting third baseman returned late in the year, he eventually went back on the injured list in the final month of the regular season when his wrist started bothering him again. Hopefully, this latest surgery clears it up and he'll be a full-go heading into the start of the 2025 season. The former eighth overall pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech has developed a reputation early in his career as being injury-prone and he managed only seven home runs and 16 RBI with 48 strikeouts and eight walks in only 46 games in 2024 after he was a first-time All-Star in 2023.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list and miss the final week of the 2024 regular season. Jung, who fractured his wrist in early April and needed surgery, hasn't played since last Wednesday due to recurring discomfort in his surgically repaired right wrist. The 26-year-old will visit with a hand specialist on Thursday to get an update on what is bothering him. It's been a disappointing 2024 campaign for Jung after being named an All-Star in his first full MLB season in 2023, as he's only played in 46 games this year. He's hit .264/.298/.421 with a .719 OPS, seven homers, 16 RBI and four steals in 188 plate appearances. Ezequiel Duran is most likely to see the majority of the starts for Texas at the hot corner with Jung out for the final week of the season as the Rangers play out the string.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is being shut down for a couple of days with discomfort in his surgically repaired right wrist. Jung will go to Arizona to visit his surgeon on Monday and will hopefully play on the season-ending road trip next week. With Jung out again on Friday, Jonathan Ornelas will start at third base for Texas and will hit ninth at Globe Life Field against the division-rival Seattle Mariners and right-hander George Kirby. DFS managers should avoid Ornelas in the tough matchup against Kirby. Depending on what Jung's surgeon says, there's a chance the Rangers just play it safe and hold the 26-year-old out for the final week of the 2024 season with nothing left to play for. Jung fractured his wrist in early April and has played in just 46 games this year, slashing .264/.298/.421 with seven home runs, 16 RBI and four stolen bases in 188 plate appearances.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung is not in the team's starting lineup for Thursday's contest at Globe Life Field against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. Ezequiel Duran will fill in at the hot corner and bat seventh against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Jung was a first-time All-Star for Texas in his first full season in the big leagues in 2023, but his 2024 campaign has been defined by a fractured wrist that he suffered early in April. In total, he's played in only 46 games this year and has hit .264/.298/.421 with a .719 OPS, seven home runs, 16 RBI and four stolen bases in 188 plate appearances. Jung has swung the bat well in September, going 16-for-56 (.286) with three homers, a double and seven RBI. Duran has gone hitless in three career at-bats versus Gausman. The 25-year-old Dominican is a low-upside DFS sleeper in a tough matchup. He has only three homers and 19 RBI in 241 at-bats in 2024.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung came up clutch for this team during Sunday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The Rangers were on the verge of losing until Jung unloaded a three-run home run off right-hander Mason Miller to give his team the victory. This is a nice feeling for Jung who only has three long balls in 28 games since returning from the injured list. He smacked 23 homers last season in his first full season in the big leagues. Sadly, Jung has been forced to miss most of the 2024 season due to injury.
