Drew Thorpe Expected To Be Ready For Spring Training

According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe is expected to be ready for Spring Training. Thorpe underwent a shoulder operation late in the season to remove a bone spur but is progressing at the typical rate and should be a full-go for Spring Training. This is a great sign for the young starting pitcher, who likely has a good chance to make the Opening Day Roster. Thorpe opened the campaign by getting his second look at Double-A and performed quite well, boasting a 1.35 ERA and 0.87 WHIP across 60 innings of work. Thorpe then got a small taste of the big leagues and held a 5.48 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 44 1/3 frames. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should monitor his progress during Spring Training, as he could be worth a look as a late flier in drafts this offseason.

Drew Thorpe To Undergo Elbow Surgery

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe (elbow) is set to have season-ending surgery on his elbow. Thorpe hasn't pitched since July 31 while dealing with a bone spur in his right elbow, and now the White Sox have confirmed that he is done for the season. The 23-year-old rookie had some good starts for the Sox and looks to be a solid part of their future even though the overall numbers weren't great. He should be ready to go by the start of the 2025 season and might be worth a look in deeper leagues as a flier.

Mariners Ambush Drew Thorpe For Eight Runs

Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Drew Thorpe got ambushed during Friday night's start against the visiting Seattle Mariners at Guaranteed Rate Field, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning while taking his second loss of the year. Thorpe was able to strike out Mariners slugger Luke Raley amid Friday's disastrous appearance, but that proved to be the highlight of his evening on a night he couldn't escape the first inning and was hammered for three home runs. His ERA ballooned to 4.81 and his WHIP to 1.19 to go with a concerning 25:19 K:BB over eight starts (39 1/3 frames) on the South Side this season. The 23-year-old rookie right-hander will search for better results when he takes the ball in his next scheduled showing at home against the division-rival Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, but he'll be tough to trust for fantasy purposes despite a somewhat favorable matchup.
