Miami Dolphins quarterback Tim Boyle completed 8-of-13 passes for 74 yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He gained four yards on the ground on his only attempt. Boyle entered the game in the second half after starting QB Tyler Huntley (shoulder) picked up an injury and was deemed out for the remainder of Week 7. It was another disastrous day for the Dolphins' offense, who have yet to find their footing since Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) went down with a brain injury. Of the team's 12 possessions in the contest, just two went for ten or more plays, and it's the fourth time in the last five matchups that they've failed to score more than ten points. With Tagovailoa potentially returning to action in Week 8, Miami's fortune may swiftly change.
Quarterback Tim Boyle was released by the Miami Dolphins on Friday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The 30-year-old operated as the No.3 QB through the early part of the season. However, the Dolphins recently brought in Tyler Huntley, which pushes Boyle to the No.4 spot on the depth chart. This move also suggests that Skylar Thompson (ribs) could be cleared to return this weekend and serve as Huntley's backup. Boyle made a brief appearance this season in Week 3 against Seattle and went 7-for-13 with 79 yards and no scores. Last season with the New York Jets, Boyle went 48-for-77 with 360 yards and a 1:4 TD:INT ratio. Fantasy managers in superflex leagues should drop Boyle from their roster and instead look to stash Thompson, as he should operate as the No.2 QB for the time being in Miami.
The Miami Dolphins will square off against the Tennessee Titans as part of a second consecutive Monday Night Football doubleheader. Ahead of the matchup, head coach Mike McDaniel has yet to decide whether Tim Boyle or Tyler Huntley will be his starting quarterback. McDaniel and the Fins are having a rough start to the season, with quarterbacks Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) out for a few more weeks and Skylar Thompson (ribs) unlikely to suit up this Monday. Boyle -- initially the team's third-string option -- presents with the lower floor of the two potential signal-callers and, at this point, looks less likely to get the start. On the other hand, Huntley, who was recently acquired off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad, is a more enticing option for the team as he brings a dual-threat element to his game. Despite the latter garnering a higher fantasy ceiling, neither quarterback will be a recommended option in Week 4. The 26-year-old Huntley could be an exciting addition in superflex and 2QB formats, so an empty roster spot could be used on him in case he performs better than expected. However, fantasy managers will want to exhibit caution when slotting him into their lineups in his first week of action. The two backups are both low-end QB2s.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tim Boyle completed 7-of-13 passes for 79 yards in Sunday's 24-3 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Skylar Thompson (chest) got the start but took a hit early in the third quarter after a short completion to De'Von Achane that sent him to the sideline -- effectively ending his day. Miami couldn't get anything going with Thompson manning the helm, and that didn't change when Boyle entered the contest. The Fins were stifled by Seattle on Sunday, coming away with just three points on 12 drives. Miami had an opportunity for one more score when they were deep in Seahawks territory early in the fourth quarter, but Boyle could not convert on 4th-and-goal. There has been no update on the severity of Thompson's injury, but the team may look to sign veteran QB help if it is deemed serious. We'll know more over the coming days as Miami gears up for a Monday night home matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
The Miami Dolphins have decided to sign quarterback Tim Boyle to their practice squad on Thursday. Boyle was released by the Houston Texans after they opted to keep C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills as their two quarterbacks. The 29-year-old journeyman has appeared in 20 games with four different teams over the last five seasons. During that time, Boyle has thrown for 934 yards with four touchdowns and 12 interceptions, so don't expect any fantasy value for Boyle if he's asked to take over under center at some point. He figures to serve as depth on the practice squad and will be the third option behind Tua Tagovailoa and Skyler Thompson.
