Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) was carted off the field during Saturday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. It was an ugly scene that had many players in tears on the sideline. After further evaluation, Dell has reportedly suffered a dislocated knee cap. It sounds like the doctors are still determining the next step, but Dell could be forced to undergo surgery. If that happens, Dell could be sidelined for the beginning of next season, which would certainly be a bummer. Dell already suffered a season-ending injury last year, so this would be two years in a row for the young wideout. He hauled in six receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown before exiting the contest. The absence of Dell should mean increased roles for Nico Collins, Robert Woods, and Xavier Hutchinson.
Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) suffered a significant knee injury and will stay in a Kansas City hospital overnight on Saturday night for further evaluation. Dell caught six passes for 98 yards and a touchdown before his left leg was rolled up on during his touchdown catch. Soon after the game, he appears to have suffered a very serious injury and will not travel back to Houston with the team as he gets further medical advice on his knee.
Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell (knee) has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday's game. Dell sustained this injury while making an impressive 30-yard TD reception. The sophomore wide receiver was eventually carted off the field. Before exiting, Dell caught six of his seven targets for 98 yards and a score. His seven targets were the second-most on the team behind Nico Collins at the time. Dell suffered a broken leg last December which cut his season short and now is in danger of missing the remainder of the 2024 campaign. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates regarding his status. If he were to miss an extended period of time, Nico Collins would be in store for a massive target share down the stretch and in the playoffs.
Even by boom-or-bust standards, Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell has been an extreme case this year, making him a low-end WR4 option in Week 16 against Kansas City. The second-year receiver has failed to surpass 50 yards receiving eight times in 13 games and logged just one top-15 finish among receivers all season. This week, he goes up against a Kansas City defense that has allowed the fifth-fewest total yards and knocked down the quarterback at the second-highest rate in the NFL. Attached to a Houston passing game that has looked out of sorts for large portions of the season, Dell shouldn't be relied upon in standard formats.
Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell drew only two targets Sunday against Miami, catching both for a total of 26 yards in the 20-12 win. He also ran once for 15 yards, bringing his yardage total to 41 on the day. Dell certainly wasn't alone in having a meager performance, as Houston gained 181 total yards as a team. Unfortunately for managers who started the second-year receiver, fellow receiver Nico Collins caught both of Houston's touchdowns despite finishing with 17 receiving yards on four catches. The Texans face a bigger test in Week 16 when they travel to play Kansas City on Saturday.
