New England Patriots kicker John Parker Romo has signed a reserve/future deal with the organization on Monday. Romo joined the Pats practice squad in December after a stint with the Minnesota Vikings. Romo filled in for the injured Will Reichard for four games in Minnesota this season. He converted 11-of-12 field goal attempts and 7-of-8 extra point attempts in his time with the team. Current Pats' kicker Joey Slye made only 79 percent of his field goal attempts this season. Romo should get a legitimate shot at the kicking job in New England heading into next season.

That includes Slye missing three field-goal tries in the team's last two games, so if his struggles continue, don't be surprised if the Pats give Romo a shot with only several games remaining in the 2024 campaign.

The rookie was able to participate fully this week during practice, so it would appear he has a good shot at suiting up for this weekend's home tilt. Whichever kicker is active for Sunday will have an excellent opportunity to put up strong numbers against a Falcons defense that's struggled to stop anyone in 2024.

The second-year player has been excellent through three games while he fills in for teammate Will Reichard (quad) -; drilling all eight of his field goal attempts and missing just one of six extra-point tries. Romo was last weekend's hero, connecting on a game-winning kick in OT to fell the Bears 30-27. He again might have a viable outing against a Cardinals team that has been difficult to score on in recent weeks but has allowed a good bit of yardage throughout the season. Even in a tough matchup, the Vikings' offense should be able to move the rock effectively -; paving the way to a solid day for the 27-year-old. He's RotoBaller's K12 in this week's rankings.

However, he failed to connect on one of his three extra-point attempts in Week 11's victory over the Tennessee Titans. Romo will get an opportunity to redeem himself this Sunday. Still, there are likely better kicking options for fantasy managers to stream if they are in need of a bye-week replacement. The Bears have stifled opposing passing attacks this season, so points could be hard to come by if quarterback Sam Darnold (foot) struggles against the Vikings' division rivals.
