Washington Commanders rookie first-round quarterback Jayden Daniels will not play in the preseason finale on Sunday night against the New England Patriots. It doesn't come as much of a surprise after the Commanders named the second overall pick as their starting QB on Aug. 19. Daniels ended up going 12-for-15 for 123 yards while carrying the ball three times for 16 yards and a touchdown in the two preseason games he appeared in. The 23-year-old signal-caller has done nothing but impress on and off the field this summer, which made the team's decision to name him the starter pretty easy. Washington's receiving depth is very thin beyond WR1 Terry McLaurin, which could be an issue for Daniels in his first NFL season, but his high-upside dual-threat abilities still put him on the QB1/2 borderline. Ideally, fantasy managers will be able to roster him as a high-end backup.

ESPN's John Keim writes that it's hard to overstate how much Washington Commanders rookie first-round quarterback Jayden Daniels has impressed his new teammates, thanks to both his on-field play and his off-the-field work ethic. Daniels' ball placement, accuracy and decision-making have all been praised this offseason. He completed 12 of his 15 passes for 122 yards and rushed for a touchdown in his first two preseason contests and was officially named the team's starting QB on Aug. 19. "I've played with a lot of first-time quarterbacks," receiver Terry McLaurin said, "and he plays like this is not going to be his first time playing in this league." It's no secret that the 23-year-old from LSU has all the tools to exceed in the NFL sooner than later, but it remains to be seen if he'll have enough help through the air to be a weekly QB1 option for fantasy managers.

The Washington Commanders officially named No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels as their starting quarterback on Monday, according to head coach Dan Quinn. What had been expected all along is finally official, and Daniels will make his NFL regular-season debut in the Week 1 opener on Sept. 8 on the road against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 23-year-old former LSU star has looked good in his two preseason performances and went 10-for-12 for 78 yards while running for 13 yards on two carries in Saturday's preseason game against the Miami Dolphins. Daniels has looked like a seasoned veteran while running the offense in training camp heading into his first NFL season, and his dual-threat abilities at the position will give him quite a bit of fantasy upside right away. His receiving corps beyond Terry McLaurin is a little suspect, but Washington's backfield should help take plenty of pressure off him. Daniels will be a high-end QB2 target with QB1 upside in the right matchups in 2024.

Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels performed well in his second professional game on Saturday evening against the Miami Dolphins. He went 10-for-12 with 78 passing yards and 13 yards on the ground on two attempts. The former number-two overall pick led the offense for two possessions compared to just one last week. On the first possession, he hit Dyami Brown for three catches and Terry McLaurin for two. Running back Brian Robinson Jr. shined in the second drive, but Daniels did complete two nice passes to tight end John Bates for 20 total yards. Fantasy managers should continue to pay attention to who Daniels targets in the final preseason game, as he is clearly building a connection with Brown, who caught 55 receiving yards last week. The former Heisman winner will be a popular pick in redraft leagues at his 105.6 Yahoo! ADP, given how poised he has looked through his first two professional games.

Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn said to expect rookie first-round quarterback Jayden Daniels to play one to two offensive series in Saturday's preseason contest versus the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe came away very impressed with Daniels after watching him in a joint practice with the Dolphins on Thursday. The 23-year-old second overall pick out of LSU led the offense to five straight touchdowns during a red-zone drill on Thursday against Miami and looks comfortable and confident with the Commanders' scheme heading into his first NFL campaign. In his NFL debut last week against the New York Jets, Daniels went 2-for-3 for 45 yards and ran for a three-yard TD while playing only one series. So far, Daniels looks like the real deal and should even have QB1 upside in favorable matchups in fantasy in 2024.
