New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (concussion, hand) underwent more testing recently and is at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact, according to sources. With only three weeks remaining in the regular season (two weeks in most fantasy leagues), it's unlikely that we'll see Carr on the field again for the Saints this year. In addition to a concussion that he sustained in the Week 14 win over the New York Giants, Carr fractured his left (non-throwing) hand in two places. New Orleans is currently 5-9 and is a long shot to make the postseason. Jake Haener got the start in place of Carr in the Week 15 loss to the Washington Commanders and went 4-for-10 for 49 yards and an interception before being benched for rookie Spencer Rattler. The Saints haven't announced a starter for Week 16 against the Packers on Monday night, but it's expected they'll stick with Rattler.

New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said that it's too soon in the week to guess whether quarterback Derek Carr (concussion, hand) could play in Week 16 against the Green Bay Packers next Monday night. However, Rizzi also said it "wouldn't be a reach" to expect that Carr will be cleared to play at some point before the end of the season. The coach also said he will wait to decide which QB will take the first practice reps this week and potentially start if Carr cannot go. However, all signs point to rookie Spencer Rattler getting the nod after the team benched Jake Haener in the one-point loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 15. The 33-year-old Carr suffered a concussion and a fractured left (non-throwing) hand in the Week 14 win over the New York Giants. Fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting him to help them the rest of this year.

Carr has passed for 2,145 yards and 15 touchdowns with five interceptions this season. Haener has 177 passing yards and a passing touchdown in backup duties this season. Haener will get the nod at starting quarterback for the Saints ahead of Spencer Rattler. The Commanders' D/ST looks like a solid fantasy play against the Saints offense led by Haener.

He hasn't officially been ruled out for Week 15 against the Washington Commanders, but interim head coach Darren Rizzi said on Thursday that Jake Haener will start under center this weekend. While the 33-year-old Carr will not be placed on Injured Reserve, there's a chance that he won't play again this year, depending on how the team plays in the next couple of weeks. The expectation is that Carr will officially be ruled out for Week 15 on Friday. Carr has dealt with various injuries again in 2024 and is currently the QB22 in overall fantasy points with 15 TD passes and 17 picks in 10 games played.
