Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery enjoyed the best season of his career in his first year with the organization, rushing for 1,015 yards and 13 touchdowns. He began the season as the clear lead back, but rookie Jahmyr Gibbs steadily ate into his workload as the season progressed. Still, he remained a fringe RB1 due to his goal-line role in one of the best offenses in the NFL. However, his Wild Card opponent, the Los Angeles Rams, has allowed the second-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs. While Gibbs is more matchup-proof as a pass-catching weapon, Montgomery could be at risk of busting in this spot. He'll need a touchdown to be worth using $6,200 of your budget on him in six-game contests on DraftKings.
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery rushed 10 times for 40 yards and a touchdown in the Week 18 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Montgomery's one-yard touchdown plunge marked his 13th of the season to go along with 1,015 yards rushing. It's been a career year for the 26-year-old, who is under contract in Detroit until at least 2025. Although rookie Jahmyr Gibbs is clearly the RB1 of the future, the two ball-carriers with contrasting styles will likely continue to share touches in 2024.
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery found the end zone for the 12th time last week, continuing his run of solid RB2 play in fantasy football. The former Chicago Bear has not finished lower than the RB25 in any non-injury-shortened game this year, so he remains a high-floor RB2 or flex play in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions still have a path to the No. 2 seed in the NFC, meaning head coach Dan Campbell should still be motivated to play his starters until the end of the game. Although the Vikings have surrendered the ninth-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs, the Lions have been able to run the ball in all matchups this year.
