The Houston Texans agreed to a three-year, $36 million deal to re-sign tight end Dalton Schultz on Tuesday with $23.5 million fully guaranteed at signing, according to sources. Schultz will now remain a key weapon for second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud. Schultz was the top tight end scheduled to be a free agent this year, but the Texans made sure he wouldn't make it to the open market. The 27-year-old was a bit inconsistent for fantasy managers in 2023 in his first year in Houston, but his fantasy arrow is pointing up now that he's staying in Houston with Stroud, who looked like a seasoned veteran in his rookie year. In 15 regular-season games last year, Schultz finished as the No. 10 tight end in half-point PPR scoring, securing 59 of his 88 targets for 635 yards and five touchdowns.
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz will look to get more involved in Saturday's Divisional Round matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. Schultz caught just one pass last week in the Wild-Card Round win against the Cleveland Browns. But it happened to go for a 37-yard touchdown. The 27-year-old will have another tough matchup against a Ravens' secondary that has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season. Back in Week 1, when these two teams faced off, Schultz caught just two passes for four yards. Playing against this Baltimore defense makes him a tricky option this weekend.
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz caught his sixth touchdown of the season and first of the playoffs in the team's 45-14 win over the Cleveland Browns in the Wild-Card Round. Schultz wasn't utilized much in this contest after dropping a pass on the Texans' first drive of the game. However, quarterback C.J. Stroud went back to the tight end late in the second quarter for a 37-yard score. That was Schultz's only catch of the game, but it came at an opportune time, as it gave the Texans a 10-point halftime lead. He'll look to get more involved next week in the Divisional Round.
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz has a tough matchup in the first round against the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to tight ends this season. Despite Schultz catching eight passes for 61 yards back when these teams played in Week 16, that was with Case Keenum under center. There is potential for the 27-year-old tight end in this game, though. Both wide receivers Robert Woods (hip) and Noah Brown (back) are questionable for Saturday. If neither or one can't play, Schultz should see more opportunities in the passing game from quarterback C.J. Stroud. Either way, he should have a safe floor this weekend.
Houston Texans tight end Dalton Schultz caught five passes in the team's 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 18. Schultz was quiet for most of the night but came up big in the Texans' go-ahead drive in the fourth quarter. The tight end caught three passes for 31 yards on that drive, including a key third-down grab. In the game, Schultz finished with five catches for 42 yards. The 27-year-old veteran will look to continue his solid season next week in the playoffs.
