Stetson Bennett Expected To Participate In Offseason Activities

Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead said quarterback Stetson Bennett is working out in Dallas, and he is expected to join the team for offseason workouts in the coming months. The two-time National Champion at Georgia was selected in the fourth round of last year's NFL Draft, but he was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list on September 13 and did not play in any games. It's still unclear why he was away from the team during his rookie season, but the plan is for him to be back in 2024. That said, the Rams recently signed Jimmy Garoppolo to back up Matthew Stafford, so Bennett is unlikely to make an impact for Los Angeles or fantasy teams this year.

Rams Agree With Jimmy Garoppolo On One-Year Deal

The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms with free-agent quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday, according to sources. Following his disastrous year with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023, Jimmy G is now set to join the Rams for one season as Matthew Stafford's backup. Garoppolo must first serve a two-games suspension to start the year for performance-enhancing drugs, but then he will be holding a clipboard on the sidelines with the Rams. The 32-year-old signal-caller played in seven games with the Raiders last year before getting hurt and eventually benched for rookie Aidan O'Connell, going 110-for-169 for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. Pretty much all of the fantasy value that Jimmy G had going into last season is now gone.

Jimmy Garoppolo Drawing Some Interest

The Las Vegas Raiders are expected to officially release quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo when the new league year opens on Wednesday, according to sources, and there are a few teams interested in signing him. The 32-year-old veteran signal-caller is coming off a rough season with the Raiders in 2023, as he only played in seven games (six starts) and threw for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. Jimmy G will also be forced to miss the first two games in 2024 following a performance-enhancing drug suspension. At best, Garoppolo could latch on with an organization that plans to use him as a veteran bridge at the position to help ease a rookie QB in. Garoppolo could also be signed strictly to serve in a backup role next season.

Colby Parkinson Signing With Rams

Seattle Seahawks free-agent tight end Colby Parkinson intends to sign a three-year, $22.5 million deal that includes $15.5 million guaranteed with the Los Angeles Rams, according to sources. Before playing at Stanford, Parkinson attended Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif., which is right down the road from the Rams' training complex. Parkinson, the former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2020, will stay in the NFC West and will get a shot to serve as the team's top pass-catching tight end, at least to start the 2024 season. It's unlikely that Tyler Higbee (knee) will be ready to go for the start of the season after tearing his ACL and MCL in the playoffs. In Seattle, the 25-year-old Parkinson never had more than 322 receiving yards or two touchdowns in a single season, so fantasy managers shouldn't suddenly expect him to become a TE1 in LA with Higbee sidelined.

Tyler Higbee Has Unclear Timeline For Return

Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the team's wild-card loss to the Detroit Lions on Jan. 14, and he has undergone surgery to repair it. However, Rams general manager Les Snead said the veteran's timeline to return is "still unclear." The 31-year-old caught 47 passes for 495 yards and two touchdowns in his eighth NFL season (2023), marking his quietest statistical year since 2018. Given his major injury late in the year, he's likely to begin the 2024 campaign on the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list, which would mean he'd have to miss at least the first four games of the season. Regardless of his health, he has limited fantasy upside while sharing a field with receivers Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp for the foreseeable future. His peak fantasy value has likely come and gone.
