Jordan Love Not Practicing On Thursday

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (knee) is still the only player on the team's 53-man roster that was not participating in practice on Thursday. Love suffered a Grade 1/2 MCL sprain to his left knee at the tail end of the Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last Friday in Brazil and has missed the first two practices in Week 2. Head coach Matt LaFleur said the door is open for Love to play this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts at Lambeau Field, but that feels like a long shot. In a best-case-scenario, the 25-year-old will probably be lucky to miss only a few games. In the meantime, backup Malik Willis is expected to start this Sunday against the Colts, where fantasy managers should expect a much less explosive Packers offense. Fantasy managers should have already made plans to go in another direction at QB with Love unlikely to play in Week 2.

Packers Saying The Door Is Open For Jordan Love To Play In Week 2

When asked if the door is open for Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (knee) to suit up in Week 2 this Sunday at Lambeau Field against the Indianapolis Colts, head coach Matt LaFleur said, "I'd say it's pretty open." Love did not practice on Wednesday after suffering a Grade 1/2 MCL sprain in his left knee at the very end of the season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last Friday in Brazil. The Packers are not placing the 25-year-old on Injured Reserve, which means they are confident he can return within the next four games. However, despite LaFleur's comments about Love having a shot to play this weekend, fantasy managers should have already formulated a plan to be without Love in Week 2 and possibly beyond. Love's injury typically comes with a three- to six-week timetable, so the smart money is on him missing multiple weeks. The Packers offense could struggle mightily with backup Malik Willis under center in the meantime.

Josh Jacobs Limited On Wednesday With Back Injury

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs (back) was limited in practice on Wednesday with a back injury, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. The Packers are likely easing the practice workload on their newly acquired running back prior to their Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Jacobs saw a heavy workload on Friday evening against the Eagles as presumed backup MarShawn Lloyd was inactive with a hamstring injury. Jacobs logged a hefty 42 offensive snaps in that game. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Jacobs' status prior to the weekend. Lloyd was also a limited participant in practice as well. If Jacobs were to face any limitations in Week 2, Emanuel Wilson would likely see an uptick in work.

Sean Clifford Named Backup Quarterback

Green Bay Packers quarterback Sean Clifford is set to be the backup option for the Week 2 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. It was uncertain who was going to start for the Packers with Jordan Love (ankle) facing a multiple week absence. Head coach Matt LaFleur cleared that up on Monday by naming Malik Willis the starter for Week 2. He also mentioned that Clifford is set to back him up, so he'll be elevated from the practice squad. Normally, someone becoming the backup isn't noteworthy, but this case is a little different. Willis has only been with the Packers for a few weeks and has yet to prove himself at the professional level. Clifford has been with the Packers for a full season and he should know the offensive scheme fairly well. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Packers turn to Clifford if Willis fails to impress them. Fantasy managers don't need to be jumping at the waiver wire to grab the former fifth-round pick. However, it wouldn't be shocking if Clifford does get snaps at some point in the next few weeks. Neither quarterback is going to be a viable fantasy option in most formats.

Malik Willis Will Start For Packers With Jordan Love Out

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said on Monday that quarterback Malik Willis will be the team's starter until Jordan Love (knee) is able to return from his MCL sprain, which could take anywhere from three to six weeks. The Packers aren't putting Love on Injured Reserve, which would have required at least a four-game absence, but they are expected to play it safe with the franchise signal-caller's recovery. "If Jordan is not cleared, then we'll start Malik, and Sean will be the backup," LaFleur said. Willis, 25, appears in line to start in Week 2 at Lambeau Field against the Indianapolis Colts, where he'll be a desperation QB2 play in superflex leagues. The Titans former third-round pick will most likely be asked to manage the game for Green Bay's offense, lowering the fantasy ceiling of all of his wideouts, while the Packers could opt to lean on their ground game.
