David Montgomery Questionable To Return On Sunday

Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's divisional clash with the Minnesota Vikings. The veteran didn't have much time to get involved before suffering a knee injury, so he'll finish with three yards off two carries, adding two catches for 25 yards if he doesn't return. But considering he couldn't put weight on his leg and needed assistance off the field, fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if he's ruled out. Of course, Jahmyr Gibbs will pick up most of the slack, although Craig Reynolds will presumably get the residual touches.

Jahmyr Gibbs Puts Together Efficient Performance

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs was efficient with his touches in the blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys, but only turned in an RB2-level performance. The dynamic back finished with 63 yards on 12 carries and caught three of his five targets for 28 yards. This game was another instance where David Montgomery took over in the red zone and took the touchdowns instead of Gibbs. Despite that, Gibbs has remained at a higher value in PPR formats since he returned to being involved in the passing game. He might have a tough time against a stout Vikings defense in Week 7 though.

Jared Goff Shines With Top-Five Fantasy QB Finish In Week 6

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff delivered a dominant fantasy performance in Week 6, finishing as a top-five QB. Goff was highly efficient, completing 18 of 25 passes for an impressive 315 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for five yards on three attempts in Detroit's 47-9 blowout victory over the Dallas Cowboys. This strong outing highlighted Goff's continued effectiveness and secured a high output for fantasy managers this week. His performance placed him as a top-five fantasy quarterback in Week 6, showcasing his consistency as a reliable starter. Goff's connection with key receivers helped power the Lions' offense in their most decisive win of the season. Fantasy managers can look forward to Goff's potential for similar performances in favorable matchups moving forward. The 30-year-old is a high-end QB2 in a tough matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 7.

David Montgomery, Lions Agree To Two-Year Extension

The Detroit Lions and running back David Montgomery have agreed to a two-year, $18.25 million extension, locking the veteran RB up through the 2027 season, per Adam Schefter. Montgomery had two years remaining on the three-year, $18 million deal he inked in 2023, but the team saw fit to extend an integral part of their offense. The new contract includes $10.5 million in new guaranteed money, and Detroit handcuffs him and backfield mate Jahmyr Gibbs for the foreseeable future. Since 2019, the former third-round pick's 43 rushing scores are good for ninth-most in the league. The 27-year-old has been one of the more consistent fantasy backs this season despite fluctuating yardage outputs, scoring a touchdown in each of his first four outings. He'll look to keep that streak going in Week 6 on the road against the Cowboys.

Jahmyr Gibbs Could Be More Effective Through The Air In Week 6

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs has failed to catch a pass in the last two games (although he did get 20 yards and a receiving touchdown on a lateral in Week 3). It's the first time in his young career that he's failed to log a reception in back-to-back games. Thankfully for fantasy football, he's averaging 13.5 carries and 71 rushing yards per game and has failed to score a touchdown just once. The Dallas Cowboys have allowed 17 receptions to running backs this season, the fifth-lowest mark in the league. However, the 222 yards they've given up to the position is the sixth-most. Even if Gibbs can't break off a long reception, the Cowboys' defense is banged up and has been susceptible against the run. Gibbs and his counterpart David Montgomery should be viewed as top-12 running backs this week.
