Lions Sign Tre'Quan Smith To Futures Deal

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent wide receiver Tre'Quan Smith to a Reserve/Futures deal on Wednesday, according to a league source. Smith spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos in 2023. He was active for just one game with the Broncos but wasn't targeted at all on offense. The 28-year-old former third-round pick by the Saints in 2018 out of Central Florida had 131 catches on 196 targets for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in his five years with the Saints, with 10 of his 18 scores coming in his first two seasons in the league. Smith will compete for a 53-man roster spot in Detroit this summer at training camp and in the preseason.

Jameson Williams Posts Career Day On Just Three Touches In Loss

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams rushed once for 42 yards and a touchdown and caught two of his three targets for 15 yards and another touchdown in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers. The second-year speedster ripped off an explosive run on a wide receiver end-around to open the scoring in the first quarter, but Detroit ultimately blew a 17-point lead to be eliminated from the playoffs. While Williams has special speed, there's a chance the Lions will look to upgrade the WR2 spot behind Amon-Ra St. Brown this offseason. Williams has seen three or fewer targets in 15 of his 18 career regular season games. He might remain the best ball option in the late rounds of drafts but added target competition could mean the end of his fantasy-relevance.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Snags Seven Passes In NFC Title Game Loss

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught seven of his 11 targets for 87 yards in the NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The 1,500-yard receiver during the regular season caught five passes for 73 yards in the first half, but he was limited in the second half as the Detroit offense sputtered. St. Brown was named an All-Pro for the first time in his career this season, and he should remain a high-end WR1 in fantasy football for years to come. Although Detroit is likely to lose offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, St. Brown's connection with Jared Goff rivals any WR-QB duo in the league.

Sam LaPorta Caps Off Rookie Season With 13 Targets

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta caught nine of his 13 targets for 97 yards in the 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. The rookie has been dealing with a knee injury during the postseason, but it has seemingly not slowed him down. Through his first three playoff games, he caught 21 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown. His 21 catches rank sixth all-time for tight ends in a single postseason, trailing only Travis Kelce (four times) and Dan Ross (1981). Needless to say, the Iowa product had an amazing rookie season, and he is now viewed as the dynasty TE1 in fantasy football. There's a chance he will be the consensus TE1 in 2024 fantasy football drafts.

Jahmyr Gibbs' Costly Fumble Contributes To 49ers Comeback On Sunday

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs rushed 12 times for 45 yards and a touchdown and caught three of his six targets for 11 yards in the NFC Championship Game loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It wasn't his best performance, and his tough day was capped off with a lost fumble on the second drive of the second half to give the 49ers the ball on the 24-yard line. Detroit went on to lose the game 34-31 after leading by 17 points at halftime. Although the turnover will be tough to get past, the 2023 first-round pick had a fantastic debut season with over 1,000 scrimmage yards and double-digit touchdowns. He should be one of the first running backs off the board in 2024 fantasy drafts.
