Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance tallied two touchdowns in a preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Lance attempted 23 passes, completing 15 of them for 151 yards and a touchdown. He added seven rush attempts for another 34 yards and another touchdown. Lance tied for the team lead in rushes and rushing yards, and he did not take a sack. He soundly outplayed Cooper Rush, and while both may ultimately make the team if Dallas chooses to carry three quarterbacks, Dak Prescott will clearly retain the starting job.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb declined the latest contract offer from the team. The Cowboys and Lamb's representation met on Thursday, where he was reportedly offered $33 million per season. However, the wideout wasn't satisfied, considering Justin Jefferson would still earn more annually. But Dallas needs to get something done soon or risk Lamb missing time. With that said, he's certainly proven he deserves top money after amassing 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns off 135 catches last season. There will be more on this situation. Yet, it's likely Lamb won't sign anything until he becomes the highest-earning receiver in the National Football League.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's representatives met with the team on Thursday to discuss a new contract. The star wide receiver has been holding out of training camp as he is seeking a new contract. According to USA Today, the Cowboys presented their former first-round selection a contract slightly under $33 million, which would make Lamb the second highest-paid receiver in the sport, only behind Minnesota's Justin Jefferson. While it is still not known what figures the former Oklahoma product is seeking, this is a good sign nonetheless, as both sides are clearly making progress. CeeDee Lamb enjoyed the best season of his career last fall as he caught 1,749 receiving yards, which placed him second in the league. In addition, he scored 12 touchdowns and caught a league-leading 135 receptions. Lamb is worth selecting in the first picks of your fantasy draft given the pure volume he will see in the Dallas offense.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks (knee) was seen in the blue medical tent early Thursday during practice due to knee soreness. According to Nick Harris of the team's site, it is "not expected to be a major concern moving forward." With star wideout CeeDee Lamb missing time due to a contract holdout, the Cowboys' offense has been leaning on Cooks early and often in practice. While this does not appear to be a long-term issue, it is worth mentioning that Jalen Tolbert is the third wide receiver on Dallas' depth chart, and it's quite the falloff after that. If the eleventh-year wideout's knee does not improve quickly, expect the Cowboys to seek veteran help at the position. Cooks is Yahoo!'s WR59 in ADP and could be a nice value in an offense that should funnel targets to him, Lamb, and Jake Ferguson.
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract with the organization. The two sides have reportedly had good conversation about a long term extension. The good news for Cowboys fans is that Prescott appears willing to play through the final year of his deal. The same cannot be said about fellow teammate CeeDee Lamb who is currently holding out for an extension. If the Cowboys extend Prescott it should lower his 2024 cap hit, which as a result should give the organization more money to get a deal done with Lamb. It's unlikely that the organization wants these issues to roll over into the regular season, so we'll see if anything happens over the next few weeks.
