Khalil Shakir Logs DNP On Thursday

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) is not practicing on Thursday leading up to the Monday Night Football matchup against the New York Jets in Week 6. Shakir missed the Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans with an ankle injury, so he could reasonably sit out the AFC East contest. While the third-year wideout out of Boise State has not been a fantasy superstar this year, he's reached double-digit PPR points in all four active games, making him a solid flex option. Fellow wide receiver Curtis Samuel (foot) and receiving back James Cook (foot/toe) are also banged up, so Buffalo could have a depleted skill group. These injuries could clear the way for a big game from tight end Dalton Kincaid, but wideouts Keon Coleman and Mack Hollins will likely be more involved if at least two of the three banged-up pass-catchers can't suit up this week. However, the Jets have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to receivers this year, so it could be an ugly passing attack for Buffalo on Monday night.

James Cook Misses Second Straight Practice

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook (foot, toe) is not practicing on Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice with foot and toe injuries. The third-year ball-carrier out of Georgia appears to be in real danger of missing the Week 6 game against the New York Jets, but the game is on Monday, so fantasy managers will need to stay tuned throughout the week. Cook has three weekly RB1 finishes in PPR leagues, so his absence could be a major problem for his managers. If he can't play, veteran Ty Johnson and rookie Ray Davis will likely share the backfield against a New York Jets defense that has surrendered the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs in 2024.

Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel Won't Practice On Wednesday

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that wide receivers Khalil Shakir (ankle) and Curtis Samuel (foot, toe) will not practice on Wednesday. Samuel's injuries were suffered in the Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, while Shakir was inactive for that game after being hurt the week prior. Shakir is the bigger name to follow for fantasy purposes. The 24-year-old didn't practice at all last week before being inactive, and another DNP to kick off the week isn't a great sign for his availability in Week 6, especially with a matchup against the division-rival New York Jets upcoming on Monday night. Buffalo's offense struggled without quarterback Josh Allen's top target available. Allen spread the ball around to rookie Keon Coleman, Mack Hollins, Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Shakir's fantasy outlook remains very cloud this week, and if he does end up playing, he's eyeing a tough matchup against Jets corner Sauce Gardner.

James Cook Will Not Practice On Wednesday

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that running back James Cook (foot, toe) will not take part in practice on Wednesday after getting injured in the Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The good news for Cook's fantasy managers is that while he is certainly banged up, he's considered day-to-day. Still, the 25-year-old's status is now up in the air for Week 6's Monday night showdown with the division-rival New York Jets, and if Cooks ends up being questionable to play in that contest, it will make for some tough fantasy decisions this week. Those in need of a RB or that have Cook rostered may want to consider picking up rookie Ray Davis if he's available on the waiver wire. In addition to Davis, Ty Johnson would see a larger role in Buffalo's backfield if Cook's injuries keep him out in Week 6. Check back for status updates on Cook throughout the week.

Khalil Shakir Considered Day-To-Day This Week

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott called wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle) day-to-day on Monday. The Bills will continue to evaluate Shakir's ankle injury after he was forced to sit out of the Week 5 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. The 24-year-old will hope to make some progress in practice this week and hopefully have a chance to return this Sunday against the division-rival New York Jets in Week 6. Fantasy managers will have a better idea of whether Shakir can return later on in the week. In his absence in Houston, quarterback Josh Allen and Buffalo's offense really struggled to sustain drives and put up points in a 23-20 loss. Allen threw for a season-low 131 yards on just nine completions, and rookie receiver Keon Coleman led the team in receiving on a 49-yard touchdown reception.
