New Orleans Pelicans guard Trey Murphy III (hamstring) will not make his season debut on Friday after being downgraded from doubtful to out. He has been battling a strained hamstring to start the year, and the Pelicans seem to be taking a cautious approach after signing him to an extension. The Pelicans are also without Dejounte Murray (hand), CJ McCollum (adductor), and Jordan Hawkins (back). That leaves Jose Alvarado as a big-time streaming option with some added opportunities going to Brandon Boston Jr. and Javonte Green too.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III (hamstring) will be sidelined for at least the new two weeks due to a hamstring strain he obtained in early October. Murphy III has not yet been cleared for sprinting or physical contact, though he mentioned earlier this week that he's "making steady progress with his rehab." The additional time missed for the 24-year-old isn't a great sign to start the season, but New Orleans is sure to be a bit cautious with his recovery given his importance to the team whether being the sixth man or a spot starter. While Murphy III rehabs his hamstring, fantasy managers should look to target Javonte Green as a potential replacement. Green scored nine points and recorded four steals while posting up a +14 plus/minus in 25 minutes of action against the Chicago Bulls in their season opener. Jordan Hawkins is also likely to be a beneficiary of additional shooting volume as the 22-year-old put up 13 points and seven rebounds Wednesday.
New Orleans Pelicans guard/forward Trey Murphy III (hamstring) will remain on the sidelines for Wednesday's season opener against Chicago. He was given a three-week timeline for his return when Murphy III strained his right hamstring at the start of October. Unfortunately, Wednesday's game comes too soon for him to be ready to play. According to The Athletic's Will Guillory, Murphy III said on Tuesday that he's "making steady progress with his rehab." New Orleans' jack of all trades has started jogging but isn't yet clear for printing or physical contact. It looks like Murphy III might still be a couple of weeks away from playing. Herbert Jones and three-point bomber Jordan Hawkins should be the biggest beneficiaries of Murphy III's absence.
New Orleans Pelicans guard/forward Trey Murphy III received his payday on Monday as he signed a rookie contract extension. According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, the former 17th-overall pick signed a four-year, $112 million contract extension. Murphy has had some injury issues over the last couple of seasons but has still turned himself into an important piece to the Pelicans' success. Last season, he averaged 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 3.0 threes while playing 29.6 minutes per game. The addition of Dejounte Murray will likely take some opportunities away, but Murphy is still a solid contributor in category fantasy formats.
New Orleans Pelicans guard/forward Trey Murphy III (hamstring) will likely miss the start of the season. The 24-year-old sustained a right hamstring strain in Wednesday's practice, and the team announced that Murphy III will be re-evaluated in three weeks. New Orleans starts its campaign on Oct. 23 against Chicago. Murphy III mostly came off the bench for the Pelicans last term but continued to play an integral part in the rotation, averaging 29.6 minutes per game. Jordan Hawkins and Matt Ryan could get extra action without Murphy III.
