Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin delivered encouraging news at the Pacers Media Day, revealing he has been fully cleared to participate after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery. The team is looking for a significant progression from the former No. 6 overall pick this year. Entering his third season at just 22 years old, Mathurin will be an integral part of a dynamic and fast-paced Pacers squad. Last season, he showcased his potential by averaging 14.5 points and 4 rebounds over 59 games. Mathurin stated he's been at full strength for about a month and a half, ensuring he's ready to make an immediate impact after his sophomore campaign was cut short by a torn labrum in his right shoulder. The Pacers are excited to see him back on the court for the upcoming season.
According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Indiana Pacers guard Bennedict Mathurin (shoulder) will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He is done for the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign. Fortunately, the 21-year-old is expected to recover fully and be ready for the start of next season. Although Mathurin's numbers are down from his inaugural year, averaging 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds, he's still been a relatively reliable fantasy asset. He's shown growth in areas, especially from behind the arc, considering he shot a career-high 37.4%. At any rate, Mathurin could be in store for an even bigger season in 2024-25, assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks in the recovery process.
Indiana Pacers guard/forward Bennedict Mathurin (shoulder) will miss at least a week of action. He was already ruled out for Thursday's clash with Minnesota, and the team plans to re-evaluate him following a short two-game road trip, which starts at the weekend with a game against Orlando. "We hope it's not serious," Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said of Mathurin's injury on Thursday. "He's a guy who bounces back very quickly and hates missing game. We hope that it's relatively short term, but he will miss a week at least." Aaron Nesmith and Ben Sheppard are looking at a boost in playing time without Mathurin, particularly with Doug McDermott (calf) also unavailable.
Indiana Pacers guard/forward Bennedict Mathurin (shoulder) won't take the court Thursday against the Timberwolves. He has been ruled out with a right shoulder sprain. Mathurin has previously been dealing with a foot issue, so the 21-year-old appears to be quite a bit bang up entering the final stretch of the season. Ben Sheppard is poised to get a boost without Mathurin, although Thursday's matchup is a rough one against a team that leads the pack in the league with a 108.0 defensive rating.
Indiana Pacers guard/forward Bennedict Mathurin (illness) is questionable to suit up against the Warriors on Thursday. A stomach bug kept him out from Tuesday's clash with the Rockets, and he could now miss a second consecutive game. The trio of Andrew Nembhard, Buddy Hield, and Ben Sheppard will have a chance to play more without Mathurin. Hield had the best game out of the three on Tuesday with 12 points and six assists in 24 minutes off the bench.
