Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof was 1-for-5 with a grand slam in Oakland's rout of the Phillies. Gelof is now hitting .204 with 12 homers, 34 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. The batting average leaves something to be desired, but the 24-year-old has three homers, 11 RBI, and two steals already in July. He has shown the ability to hit for power and steal bases, but the batting average is a bit of a drain.
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof continued to find his groove in Thursday's narrow loss to the visiting Kansas City Royals, clobbering his eighth home run of the year. It was also a third consecutive game with a homer for Gelof, who knocked a two-run shot to center field off Royals right-hander Seth Lugo to tie the game at two runs apiece in the seventh inning. It's about time for fantasy managers to think about adding Gelof from waiver wires where he may be available, considering the 24-year-old former top prospect was a second-half hero in 2023 and is now hitting a healthy .263 (15-for-57) with five round-trippers, four doubles, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases in the month of June to get his batting average back up over the Mendoza line (.202) on the season as a whole.
Oakland A's second baseman Zack Gelof had a big night in a 7-5 win over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday. Gelof went 2-for-4 with a homer, a stolen base, two runs, and three RBI to help power Oakland to the win. The 24-year-old infielder has struggled in 2024, hitting .195 with six homers, 20 runs, 18 RBI, and eight steals across 200 at-bats for the A's. That said, he is showing signs of life at the plate of late, hitting .280 over his past seven contests. Fantasy gamers should continue to monitor Gelof as a potential waiver add if he continues his recent strong play.
The Oakland Athletics reinstated second baseman Zack Gelof (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and also recalled left-hander Brady Basso from Double-A Midland. In corresponding moves, the team optioned left-hander Easton Lucas and outfielder Lawrence Butler to Triple-A Las Vegas. Gelof is right back at second base on Tuesday and is hitting sixth in the order against Houston Astros right-hander Ronel Blanco. The 24-year-old was out for around three weeks with an oblique strain but will now return to being Oakland's regular second baseman, even though he was hitting just .196/.260/.337 with three home runs, seven RBI and four stolen bases in 92 at-bats before landing on the IL. Gelof has never faced Blanco in his young career.
Oakland Athletics second baseman Zack Gelof (oblique) has joined the A's for their series in Houston against the Astros this week and could be activated for the series in Houston. Gelof could be activated from the 10-day injured list and return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game, so fantasy managers should be ready to get Gelof back into their lineups in deeper leagues. The 24-year-old played in back-to-back minor-league rehab games for Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday and Sunday and apparently got the green light to return to the big leagues. When he's back, he should return to starting duties at the keystone for Oakland. A strained left oblique is what sent Gelof to the injured list. Fantasy managers that have Gelof rostered in deeper leagues will be hoping he can improve on his current .196/.260/.337 slash line through his first 92 at-bats in 2024.
