According to Mark Feinsand of the MLB Network, the Colorado Rockies have signed free-agent infielder Thairo Estrada to a one-year contract. Estrada has spent each of his past four seasons playing with the San Francisco Giants. Last season, the 28-year-old held a disappointing .217/.247/.343 slash line, which was a stark drop compared to the solid .271/.315/.416 line he posted in the 2023 campaign. In addition, during the 2023 season, he hit 14 home runs and swiped 23 bags while he hit just nine home runs and had two stolen bases last summer. Under the hood, Estrada generated a weak 31.7% hard-hit rate and 4.8% barrel rate. Despite his drop in production last season, Estrada could be an intriguing late-round flier in deeper formats, as he will be playing in a positive fantasy environment in Coors Field and could be set up well for a nice bounce-back campaign as a regular.
The Colorado Rockies are in the market for a second baseman this winter, and according to a source, one name to monitor is free-agent infielder Thairo Estrada. After moving on from Brendan Rodgers finally, the Rockies signed Kyle Farmer already this offseason, but he projects better as a utility infielder than an everyday starter at the keystone. Prospect Adael Amador isn't quite ready, so Colorado is looking for more of a stop-gap option. In addition to Estrada, free-agent options include Gleyber Torres, Ha-Seong Kim, Jorge Polanco, Jose Iglesias, Adam Frazier and Cavan Biggio. Estrada, 28, had 14 homers and 20-plus steals in two straight years with the Giants in 2022 and 2023 but slumped to a .217/.247/.343 line in 2024 and being sent to the minors. He could be a nice bounce-back candidate, especially in Colorado, and Estrada has a strong glove at second base.
San Francisco Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. The 28-year-old posted a .590 OPS in 381 PA this season, especially struggling over the last couple weeks by posting just a .486 OPS in 35 PA. Estrada had been dealing with a wrist injury he sustained in late July and hasn't quite regained his form from the first half of the season. With Estrada being demoted, Casey Schmitt is in place to get most of the starts at second base. His 82 wRC+ isn't quite that appealing, but it does outpace the production Estrada was giving San Francisco. The Giants also recalled Brett Wisely in a corresponding move with Estrada's demotion. Wisely's 82 wRC+ at the major league level gives the Giants similar production at second base. Only fantasy managers in deeper leagues should even be considering adding Schmitt or Wisely to their lineups. Other fantasy managers needing help at second base can likely find better options on the waiver wire.
San Francisco Giants infielder Thairo Estrada (wrist) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Estrada appears ready to play again after being sidelined since late July due to a sprained wrist. He'll cover second base and bat eighth against right-hander Jonathan Cannon on Monday. Despite his struggles it doesn't look like Estrada has lost his starting spot on the team. He's slashing .216/.249/.343 with nine home runs and 43 RBI in 87 games this season. At this point, Estrada probably isn't worth rostering in most fantasy formats outside of deep leagues.
San Francisco Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada (wrist) is scheduled to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday. Recovering from a sprained left wrist, Estrada is ready to get in some game action and should be back with the Giants either sometime later this week or early next week. The 28-year-old infielder has been a major disappointment in his fourth year with the Giants this season, slashing a pitiful .216/.249/.353 with nine home runs, 14 doubles, and 43 RBI over 329 at-bats. Although he makes for a weak stash overall in fantasy leagues, Estrada should return to an everyday role at the keystone for San Francisco when he's activated from the injured list.
