Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (illness) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Santiago Espinal is filling in at the keystone and will bat seventh in the lineup against Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez. This will be the second straight game that India has missed while being under the weather. The former National League Rookie of the Year is hitting just .174/.326/.232 with no home runs, four RBI, two stolen bases and 10 runs scored in his first 69 at-bats of the 2024 season. The good news is that when healthy, India should continue to play regularly because of the injury to Matt McLain (oblique). Espinal isn't a great DFS sleeper, as he's hitting .128 (5-for-39) early on with no homers, five RBI and three stolen bases.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (illness) remains out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the visiting Los Angeles Angels. India was removed from Saturday's 7-5 win over the Halos due to illness and he's apparently still not feeling well enough to play. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now and check back to see if he's feeling good enough to play on Monday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Santiago Espinal is starting at the keystone and is hitting eighth on Sunday, while shortstop Elly De La Cruz is in the two-hole against Angels right-hander Jose Soriano. India so far hasn't benefitted from Matt McLain's (oblique) injury, as he's hitting just .174 (12-for-69) with no home runs, four RBI and 17 strikeouts in his first 19 contests in 2024. Espinal has no career at-bats against Soriano, while De La Cruz didn't record a hit in his lone at-bat against him.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (illness) was removed from Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels due to illness. "He wasn't feeling great," said Reds manager David Bell. "He was trying to play. He was doing everything he could to play through it." India went 1-for-3 with a run before exiting in the sixth inning. The 27-year-old is considered day-to-day. India has struggled this season, hitting .174 with four RBI and two stolen bases over 19 games in 2024. Santiago Espinal would see an uptick in playing time if India were to miss a few games.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (leg) returns to the lineup on Tuesday. India was scratched from Monday's game after he suffered a left-leg contusion after he was hit by a ball during warmups. After missing one game, India is set to lead off and play second base as the Reds take on the Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Joe Ross at home. India is slashing .242/.405/.333 in nine games with three RBI but is still looking for his first home run this season.
Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India (leg) was scratched from Monday's lineup against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers due to a left-leg contusion that he suffered when he was hit by a ball during batting practice before the game. Manager David Bell initially said that India would serve as the designated hitter and bat leadoff, but the team has decided against that now. Will Benson is now serving as the DH and batting eighth, while Bubba Thompson starts in center field and hits in the nine-hole against Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby. Outfielder Stuart Fairchild is in right field and hitting leadoff. Fairchild gains some DFS steam on Monday now that he's hitting atop the batting order. For now, fantasy baseball managers should consider India day-to-day and check back on Tuesday to see if he's back in the lineup.
