Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol after being hit in the head by a pitch on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians and is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest at Progressive Field. Santiago Espinal will instead get the start at the keystone and will bat seventh versus Guardians right-hander Andrew Walters. Even though India said he was fine after Tuesday's game, it's really no surprise that he's not in the lineup a day later, and it's possible the 27-year-old doesn't play again in 2024 with the regular season ending this Sunday. For now, fantasy managers should consider the former first-rounder to be day-to-day. If India cannot return for the final series of the season this weekend against the division-rival Chicago Cubs, expect to see Espinal make more starts at second.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (head) is in the league's concussion protocol after being hit in the head by a Tanner Bibee pitch in the fifth inning on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians. India did say after the game that he thought it was mild and that he'd be OK, but fantasy managers still playing for something in the final week of the season shouldn't expect India to play on Wednesday. The 27-year-old former fifth overall pick went 0-for-1 with a walk and the hit-by-pitch in three plate appearances on Tuesday before being removed early. With the Reds out of the playoff picture, they aren't going to take any chances with India if he's not 100 percent. In his fourth year in the big leagues, India has hit .247 (129-for-523) with 15 home runs, 58 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 83 runs scored in 147 games for a disappointing Reds club.
Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India (elbow) is back at second base and batting leadoff for the Reds on Tuesday versus the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Andre Pallante at Busch Stadium. India was pulled from Sunday's contest against the Atlanta Braves due to discomfort in his left elbow and missed Monday's series finale as a result, but he'll return to action to start a new series in St. Louis. The 27-year-old former fifth overall pick in 2018 out of Florida has gone hitless in his last four games and is batting .217 (5-for-23) so far in seven games in the month of September with a homer, double, two RBI, five walks, and eight strikeouts. India has produced modest power/speed numbers for fantasy managers in his fourth season in the big leagues with 14 homers, 12 stolen bases, 53 RBI and a .244/.348/.390 slash line in his 134 contests.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India (elbow) is out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. With India riding pine to start, Santiago Espinal will take over second-base duties and will hit sixth against Braves right-hander Charlie Morton. India was forced to leave Sunday's game early in the series finale against the New York Mets with discomfort in his left elbow and will now miss the series opener in Atlanta. Until we know more, the 27-year-old should be considered day-to-day, but it doesn't appear to be an injury that would keep him out long-term. Espinal has never faced Morton in his career. He's been seeing more playing time of late due to injuries around Cincy's infield, and although Espinal doesn't have a ton of power or speed, he's gone 7-for-22 (.318) with a double and five RBI in seven games in September.
Cincinnati Reds second baseman Jonathan India piled up three hits in Wednesday night's win over the visiting division-rival St. Louis Cardinals at Great American Ball Park, crushing two home runs with four RBI in the victory. Before clobbering a solo homer off Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson to center to pad the Reds' lead in the fifth inning, India mashed a three-run jack to give Cincinnati a 3-0 lead in the third frame on Wednesday. On the campaign as a whole, the former National League Rookie of the Year is slashing .249/.353/.395 with 11 long balls, 62 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases covering 469 plate appearances.
