San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove (elbow) was able to play catch at Petco Park on Friday after having some imaging done on his right elbow. Everything came out looking good on his tests, and he's still expecting a minimum stay on the 15-day injured list. It's the first time that Musgrove has played catch since landing on the injured list last Sunday with right-elbow inflammation. If he doesn't have any setback, the 31-year-old veteran could return to the Padres' starting rotation next Friday. Fantasy managers probably will want to avoid throwing him right back into their starting lineups when he returns. After finishing last year on the sidelines due to an injury, Musgrove has gone 3-3 with a bloated 6.37 ERA and 1.51 WHIP with a league-high 10 home runs allowed, 13 walks and 36 strikeouts in 41 innings over eight starts.
San Diego Padres starter Joe Musgrove (triceps) has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right triceps tendinitis. The 31-year-old pitched great in his last start on Wednesday, but it appears as though something came up during the outing. The decision to place him on the IL is reportedly precautionary, so hopefully he can return to the team after two weeks. Randy Vazquez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to join the rotation in Musgrove's absence. Vazquez owns a 3.38 ERA across 13 career appearances in the majors and will be a matchup-dependent streaming option in fantasy.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove logged a quality start in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds, hurling six innings of two-run ball on four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts for a no-decision. The Friars didn't grab the lead until a four-run seventh inning, which prevented Musgrove from netting the win, but it was a much-needed bounce-back effort after the hurler was knocked around for seven runs in his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies. The 31-year-old right-hander holds a 6.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 36:13 K:BB across 41 frames (eight starts) for San Diego this season following Wednesday's excellent showing, and he'll look to improve on those numbers in a tough matchup during Tuesday's scheduled start on the road against the Chicago Cubs. In two appearances (11 IP) against the Cubs since 2022, Musgrove is 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 14:4 K:BB.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove struggled in his first start of the season in Thursday's victory against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Musgrove only lasted 2 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, five runs, two walks and two strikeouts. The 31-year-old only threw six innings this spring in the Cactus League and was hit hard over that time. Despite that limited action this spring, Musgrove remains a steady option for managers after coming off a 2023 campaign that saw him throw to the tune of a 3.05 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings. With an ADP of 96, Musgrove makes for a solid option at the top of managers rotations in 2024.
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove surrendered four earned runs during Thursday's Spring Training opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He struggled mightily in the role, surrendering a walk, single, and hit batter in the top of the first inning before allowing Teoscar Hernandez to drive in two runs with his double. After just four batters, Musgrave was pulled from the game, giving him a total of four earned runs, two hits, and zero outs in the contest. On a positive note, he has plenty of time to shake things off and get back on track before his next start.
