The Los Angeles Angels moved outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) to the 60-day injured list on Monday, officially putting an end to his 2024 season. In corresponding moves, the Angels selected the contract of left-hander Jose Suarez and optioned right-hander Hans Crouse to Triple-A Salt Lake after Sunday's game. Adell was never really a realistic candidate to return this year with only a few weeks left after he strained his left oblique during the contest last Friday against the division-rival Texas Rangers. The 25-year-old will now have plenty of time to rehab his oblique before heading into spring training next February. Adell fanned 126 times in 451 plate appearances in a career-high 130 games this year, but he also had his first 20-homer season while driving in 62 and stealing 15 bases. He should enter 2025 as the Halos' everyday right fielder with a decent power/speed profile.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday afternoon with a left-oblique strain. The outfielder left Friday's game early and will now sit out for at least the next ten games. In addition, Angels outfielder Kevin Pillar was also placed on the injured list. Since August 17, Adell has begun to find some rhythm at the plate holding a modest .242/.299/.435 line with four doubles, one triple, two home runs, eight RBI, and a stolen base. Fantasy managers should expect Jack Lopez and Mickey Moniak to see the majority of starts in right field while Adell remains out. This evening, Moniak will cover right field and bat fifth in what could be a favorable matchup against Texas Rangers right-hander Jack Leiter.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (oblique) left Friday night's contest early at Globe Life Field against the division-rival Texas Rangers with left-oblique irritation, according to the team. Before being replaced in right field by Kevin Pillar, Adell was hitless in his only at-bat of the contest with a strikeout in the second inning. The fact that the 25-year-old right-handed slugger was pulled immediately doesn't bode well for Adell's chances of returning in short order. And given where we are at in the season with only a few weeks left for the out-of-contention Angels, Adell could very well be shut down for the rest of the 2024 season. The former 10th overall pick in 2017 delivered his first 20-homer season this year while also adding 62 RBI and 15 stolen bases, but he's hitting just over .208 with a .281 and below-average .684 OPS.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell finished August with a bang, going to 2-for-3 with a pair of solo home runs in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Mariners, bringing his season total to 20. Adell finished the month batting .277, the first time he's hit better than .211 in any one month since the beginning of the year when he hit .316 over the first month. The former first-round draft pick has shown a more patient approach since the All-Star break, logging a 23.6% K% that is down from 29.6% in the first half, along with a 9.0% BB% that is up from 6.9%. With 15 stolen bases on the season, he has a blend of power and speed, but he needs to keep it going for an entire season in order to be depended on for fantasy.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (hamstring) is back in right field and is hitting ninth for the Halos on Friday against the visiting division-rival Seattle Mariners and right-hander Bryan Woo, who is making his first start off the 15-day injured list. Adell is clearly feeling better after missing the last two games with an illness. The 25-year-old already has career-highs in home runs (14), RBI (38), stolen bases (10) and runs scored (34) in 84 games in his fifth year in the big leagues, but he's also hitting just .180 (46-for-255) with 83 strikeouts and only 18 walks in 281 plate appearances. Since June 17 over the span of 21 games played, Adell is hitting .143 (9-for-63) with two homers, two doubles, six RBI, one steal and 17 strikeouts. He should be avoided in DFS in the nine-hole against a pitcher he's never faced in his career.
