Los Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (illness) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Texas Rangers. Angels' manager Ron Washington said that Adell is dealing with the same illness that sidelined Brandon Drury last week. That being said, Adell could be looking at a lengthy absence. On Wednesday, Kevin Pillar will start in his place and bat cleanup versus right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on Adell.

Adell also walked once in the contest. The former first-round draft pick looked like he had finally put it all together during the first month of the season, slashing .316/.365/.614 with a palatable 22.2% K% in April. May saw that slashline drop to .144/.212/.389 with a high 33.0% K%, but June has seen lower lows with a .133/.212/.267 line with an astronomical 39.4% K%. His history suggests he won't turn things around and if there's a power outage, he'll offer little fantasy value. Hopefully fantasy managers were able to sell high on Adell when they had the chance.

That being said, it's not shocking to see why the Halos would give him a night off. Recently, manager Ron Washington said Adell's starting spot was safe, so that means he should be back in the lineup following this game. In the meantime, Kevin Pillar will cover right field and bat fifth versus right-hander Bryan Woo on Friday.

The 435-foot blast was Adell's 10th of the year and sixth in his last 14 games, however, it seems he's traded power for average. The 25-year-old hit .327 in April with four home runs, but just .169 in May with six long balls. While Adell has improved his strikeout rates considerably over years past, the former first-round draft pick has had at least one strikeout in 13 straight games and is striking out at a 28.4% rate in May, as compared to 20.7% in April. Hopefully he can maintain his power-hitting going forward and start hitting for average again too, as he was looking like a fantastic early-season waiver pickup.

He also threw in a potential game-saving home run robbery in the ninth inning to secure the win. Adell was part of a young stud home run barrage in the fifth inning against Framber Valdez, where the All-Star lefty allowed four home runs, including a solo shot to Adell. The 25-year-old former top prospect looks to finally be looking like the player the Angels hoped he'd be after selecting him in the first round of the 2017 draft. He's on pace for over 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases as we sit here near the quarter-mark of the season. Jo Adell has played his way to an everyday role over his teammate Mickey Moniak and should continue to see everyday at-bats even when former MVP Mike Trout returns to the lineup.
