The New York Yankees did not call up top prospect Jasson Dominguez to the big leagues with rosters expanding on Sunday, Sept. 1. Instead, the Yankees activated first baseman Anthony Rizzo (forearm) from the 60-day injured list and recalled right-handers Ron Marinaccio and Scott Effross and outfielder Duke Ellis from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. It's disappointing for fantasy managers in single-year leagues that have been stashing the Martian, but it doesn't mean the 21-year-old won't join the Yankees at some point this month. He was called up as the 27th man for a game earlier this month and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. When New York calls the Dominican outfielder up, they want to have an everyday role for him. Injuries have limited Dominguez to only 37 games at Triple-A this year, but he's been excellent when healthy, hitting .306/.359/.469 with five homers, 18 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team has not yet decided if it will promote top outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez when rosters expand on Sunday. Dominguez was slashing .299/.351/.453 with four home runs and 17 RBI through 34 contests with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre entering action on Friday. "We'll see," Boone said. "He's certainly one of those guys that will be in conversation for that. I feel like he's doing a good job after being a little slow coming back from the [left oblique] injury. I feel like he's been stringing together some days of good work and good at-bats. He's definitely a name in consideration." The 21-year-old came up for one game as the 27th man for a doubleheader on Aug. 18 and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before being sent back down. It would be a surprise if Dominguez weren't called up, but he also wouldn't be guaranteed regular playing time.
New York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez recorded a four-hit night for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. It was his second four-hit performance at Triple-A this season, bringing his slash line with the RailRiders to .305/.365/.438. Dominguez was called up briefly as the 27th man on Sunday for the Yankees but returned to the minors. He wasted little time ramping back up his hitting with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 21-year-old switch hitter has battled injury this season but is beginning to round into form as he seeks a late-season call-up to New York.
New York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez has been sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Dominguez, the Yankees No.1 prospect per MLB Pipeline appeared in Sunday's contest, but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. The talented outfielder recovered from Tommy John surgery earlier in the year, but then had another set back with an oblique injury. When on the field, the 21-year-old has been productive with a .298 batting average to go along with seven homers and 24 RBI in 40 games. He is likely to return to the Yankees during September call-ups and will be worth rostering in all formats when that happens.
New York Yankees outfield prospect Jasson Dominguez is being promoted to the major leagues for Sunday's game in Willliamsport, Penn., as the 27th man, according to Newsday. Dominguez has spent the entire summer in the minor leagues but has been limited as he has battled numerous injuries. Through 40 games split between several levels of the Yankees system, the switch-hitter has held a stellar .298/.365/.477 slash line with seven round-trippers, 24 RBI, and nine swiped bags. The top prospect in the Bronx got a brief taste of the majors last season and posted a .258 average with four long balls and one stolen base across a small eight-game stint. The 21-year-old is likely to be sent back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Sunday's game, but the man they call the Martian will have an immediate fantasy impact in all formats once he returns to the Bronx for good, likely when rosters expand in September.
