The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Jason Heyward (knee) on the 10-day injured list with a left-knee contusion, according to manager Dave Roberts. The good news is that Heyward's meniscus and ligaments are intact. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers recalled outfielder James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The 34-year-old Heyward could be back shortly after the All-Star break as a left-handed-hitting platoon outfielder for LA. Heyward has only 118 at-bats in 2024 due to injuries and is hitting a weak .203/.299/.398 with four homers, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored. Outma, 27, was sent to the farm in May and hit .285/.396/.556 with 10 homers and 22 RBI in 182 plate appearances for Oklahoma City. He figures to see occasional starts against righties. On Friday, Miguel Vargas enters the outfield picture in left field and will bat seventh for the Blue.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman went 2-for-5 with a home run Thursday evening. In his past seven games at Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 27-year-old has launched three long balls and held a strong .594 SLG. The Sacramento State product was demoted to Triple-A on May 27 after getting off to a slow start in the majors. Through his time in the minors this season, Outman has performed exceptionally well with a .291/.419/.563, seven long home runs, five swiped bags, 18 RBI, and a 19:31 BB:K ratio. In 36 games in the majors in the early part of the season, Outman struggled with a .147/.250/.266 line, which is why he was optioned. However, with his recent play at Triple-A he could rejoin the Dodgers fairly soon and could be worth adding in deeper redraft leagues as he should provide a solid combination of power and speed.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman went 1-for-5 with a solo home run for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. Outman has had three homers and eight RBI in June, along with a .226 batting average. The 27-year-old was optioned to Triple-A by the Dodgers on May 17. Since then, he has hit .292 with six homers, 16 RBI, and a .987 OPS. With Mookie Betts (hand) set to miss time, Outman could be on the radar for a call-up to the major leagues. He hit just .147 in 109 at-bats with the Dodgers this season, but his numbers since his demotion to the minors have been good, and they suggest he may be ready for another shot in L.A. Given another opportunity, Outman could be an interesting waiver-wire addition.
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder James Outman has been performing well since being moved down to Triple-A and should be back up in the major leagues fairly soon. Through nine games with Triple-A Oklahoma City, the 27-year-old has posted a .333/.524/.567 line with two home runs, four RBI, two stolen bases, and a 10:13 BB:K ratio. Outman had a big game on Thursday where he tallied three hits, including a home run, and brought in two runs. The former seventh-round pick struggled at the plate during the early part of the season and posted a poor .147/.250/.266 line, which resulted in his demotion. However, Outman is looking much more comfortable since taking some time in the minor leagues and is worth stashing in deeper redraft leagues as he could still provide fantasy managers with a solid combination of power and speed when he returns to Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned outfielder James Outman to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday to make room on the active roster for outfielder Jason Heyward (back), who was activated from the 10-day injured list. Outman impressed with 23 home runs, 70 RBI and 16 stolen bases in his first full big-league season in 2023 with the Blue, but he hasn't been able to replicate that so far in 2024, slashing .147/.250/.266 with three homers, 10 RBI and two stolen bases in 36 games. Rookie sensation Andy Pages basically took over the strong side of a platoon with Outman in center field before Outman's demotion on Friday. The demotion is good news for fantasy managers that swooped on Pages quickly. The 27-year-old Outman will now need to make some adjustments in the minors before he'll get another opportunity against right-handed pitching in the big leagues.
