Jon Gray Moved Up To Start On Saturday

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will be moved up to make his next start on Saturday against the visiting Kansas City Royals, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) was supposed to make his 2024 debut on Saturday, but the Rangers have decided to push him back as a precaution to give him at least another day. Gray was originally slated to make his next start on Monday in Milwaukee against the Brewers on seven days of rest. The 32-year-old veteran was hit hard his last time out on Monday against the Mets, giving up a season-high nine earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while walking none with two punchouts in just three innings. Gray allowed only one earned run in his two previous starts, but he hasn't gone over three innings in any of his three starts since returning from the injured list and will have another tough matchup against KC.

Jon Gray To Face Live Hitters On Monday

Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (groin) is scheduled to face live hitters on Monday. Gray wasn't expected to miss much more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list after leaving his most recent start against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 21 and then being placed on the IL two days later. Before getting hurt, Gray had a stellar 2.21 ERA through the first two months of the season to go along with a 1.19 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 57 innings over his first 11 appearances (10 starts). The 32-year-old's injury obviously isn't considered too serious, so if he gets through Monday's session without any issues, he could be a candidate to come off the IL to start against the San Francisco Giants this Friday. If Gray is for some reason on your league's waiver wire, scoop him up now.

Jon Gray Expected To Return After Minimum IL Stint

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (groin) is expected to return shortly after his minimum stint on the 15-day injured list. Gray left his most recent start on May 21 against Philadelphia with a groin strain. The 32-year-old performed quite well through his first ten starts with a 2.21 ERA and 1.19 WHIP and tallied 56 punchouts in 57 innings. Gray currently sports an above-average 44.8% ground ball rate and 7.4% barrel rate, which suggests that his strong start to the season could be sustainable. Gray is rostered in 54% of all Yahoo leagues and is worth adding if available in your league, as he should continue to provide stable ratios and solid strikeout numbers over the course of the season.
