J.P. Crawford Homers In Mariners Loss To Royals

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford went 2-for-4 and hit his fifth homer in Saturday's 8-4 loss at the Kansas City Royals. Crawford opened the game with a blast off Alec Marsh and added an RBI single in the fifth. He enters Sunday hitting .220/.306/.377 with 17 RBI and 24 runs scored. Crawford has homered thrice since coming off the injured list on May 20 after missing time with an oblique injury. The occasional power makes him an interesting waiver-wire option for fantasy managers in deeper leagues needing middle infield help. Beyond that, there is little appeal for Crawford, who mainly helps out in homers and runs scored.

J.P. Crawford Likely To Return Tuesday

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) went through a pre-game warmup at Yankee Stadium on Monday and told the team he was ready to go. However, he's not in the starting lineup against the New York Yankees, and the Mariners are likely waiting to reinstate him from the injured list and return him to the starting lineup for the second game of the series on Tuesday. Dylan Moore is going to get one more game to serve as Seattle's starting shortstop. He's at the 6 and is batting sixth against Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman. Crawford has been out since the end of April with a Grade 1 right-oblique strain but is on the cusp of a return. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues will be hoping Crawford can turn things around offensively when he's back, as he'll be returning to a .198/.296/.302 slash line with two homers and nine RBI.UPDATE: Crawford was activated from the injured list on Monday but wasn't included in the starting lineup.

J.P. Crawford Could Return As Early As Monday

Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (oblique) is expected to re-join the major league roster sometime in the team's four-game set against the New York Yankees that begins on Monday. Crawford has been on the injured list since April 25 with a Grade 1 oblique strain. The 29-year-old faced a minor setback in a rehab game after being hit by a pitch. Thankfully, this has not seemed to delay his recovery much at all, as he could be in the starting lineup as soon as Monday. Crawford posted a mere .190/.296/302 line through the first 22 games of the season but tallied a career-high 19 home runs last season with a solid .266/.380/.438 slash line. Crawford should be expected to serve as the everyday shortstop in Seattle and typically bat in the leadoff spot.
