Denver Broncos rookie fourth-round wide receiver Troy Franklin caught his only target for a 21-yard gain and carried the ball one time for nine yards in the team's 38-12 win over the Arizona Cardinals at Empower Field in the preseason finale on Sunday. ESPN's Jeff Legwold wrote earlier this week that Franklin has been slow to adjust to the physicality of NFL defensive backs, but considering the Broncos traded to up select him in the fourth round, he's still on track to make the final 53-man roster. It could come at the expense of third-year wideout Brandon Johnson, who had a team-high 83 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. Franklin has experience playing with rookie quarterback Bo Nix from their college days at Oregon, but as things stand now, he's most likely going to enter the regular season as the WR5 behind Courtland Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Tim Patrick and Marvin Mims Jr.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Troy Franklin was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, joining his college quarterback and first-round pick Bo Nix with the organization. The chemistry with Nix could give him a leg up on the wide receiver depth chart to begin his career, but Broncos reporter Benjamin Allbright said he's likely to be brought along slowly. "You see flashes here and there, but I don't think he's likely to be starting, let alone a big part of the plan this year," Allbright wrote on X. " (Courtland) Sutton, (Marvin) Mims, and (Josh) Reynolds are probably the starters with Tim Patrick first man off the bench. While this could surprise some people, it's common for Day 3 picks to have limited roles as rookies. Franklin struggled at the 2024 NFL Combine, and his 176-pound frame might limit his upside while he adjusts to the NFL.
The Denver Broncos traded up to the No. 102 spot with the Seattle Seahawks to select Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin in the fourth round of this year's draft. Franklin now reunites with his former quarterback, Bo Nix, who the Broncos selected on Thursday evening with the 12th overall pick. Franklin has elite speed and can easily create separation from the defense. The 21-year-old has excellent YAC ability and should be considered an explosive playmaker. Franklin totaled 1,383 receiving yards and 14 scores on 81 catches last year. Franklin joins a wide receiver room in Denver that finished towards the bottom in total receiving yards last season, which could open the door for him to contribute immediately in fantasy. He should slot behind veteran Courtland Sutton at the start of the season but could easily carve out a role, making him viable in redraft formats. Franklin should be a popular second-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.
The Buffalo Bills are hosting Oregon wide receiver Troy Franklin for a visit. Franklin is drawing a ton of interest after posting elite numbers during his final year at Oregon. He totaled 1,383 receiving yards with 14 touchdowns on 81 receptions. Franklin has already visited with the Browns, Jets, Panthers, and Patriots this offseason. The Bills are dangerously thin at wideout after losing their two top receivers. Franklin doesn't project as a superstar in the league, but could certainly make some noise in Buffalo, assuming they decide to draft him.
