It's not a long-term injury for the 27-year-old, so he should be 100 percent in plenty of time for the start of the 2024 regular season this fall. Mixon's absence will give Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale, among others, more reps early in training camp in Houston's backfield. When healthy, the former Bengals RB will be the Texans' clear lead back in 2024. "Workhorse. He's an absolute workhorse, in every regard," offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik recently said of Mixon. He's joining an offense on the rise, but Mixon is probably going to need to be much more efficient as a runner than he was last year in order to finish as a top-12 fantasy back in his first year in Houston.

The 27-year-old racked up 1,034 rushing yards on his 257 carries, which ranked in the top 10 in the league at the position, although his 4.0 yards per carry left a lot to be desired. Mixon is probably going to need to be more efficient as a runner in his first year in Houston to finish as an RB1 in fantasy, because fantasy managers probably won't be able to count on him being as involved in the passing game for the Texans as he was in Cincinnati. But in Houston's ascending that is led by impressive second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, Mixon should at least be a strong RB2 target in fantasy drafts.

According to Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, running back Dameon Pierce will have a role this season. While Joe Mixon is believed to be the No. 1 option on the depth chart, it appears Pierce could have a bigger function than anticipated. "I see Dameon having a very clear headspace as we are out working, and I think that will allow him to have a really productive year this year, " said Ryans during an interview with the Houston Chronicle. "He has everything it takes to be a really good running back for us, and I think him and Joe as a one-two punch would be very beneficial for us all." Of course, it remains to be seen how things will work out for the revamped Texans' offense. However, it seems Mixon and Pierce could collectively remain productive enough to exceed expectations during the 2024-25 campaign, although it will be tough to tell which player will be the most productive from week to week.

Although Mixon has averaged just under 4.0 yards per carry over the last two years, he still has some gas left in the tank, and his situation is a great one for fantasy production. Mixon has the fifth-most receptions by a running back since 2022 (112), making him a valuable asset in PPR formats.
