Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro has been in fantasy purgatory for most of his 2024 campaign amid immense struggles for Carolina's offense. The team has flip-flopped quarterbacks, traded away receivers, and consistently failed to put him in a position to kick the ball. They did, however, show some improvement in Week 9 as Pineiro made a 48-yarder to go along with two extra points. He should still be wholly avoided for fantasy purposes, but there are definite signs of life for the placekicker in Carolina.
Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro has found himself at the bottom of fantasy kickers even though it hasn't been his fault. Pineiro has converted on every field and extra point so far, but he's only attempted one field goal in each game and one extra point overall. The Panthers' offense has been abysmal as they haven't even been able to get into field goal range let alone find the end zone at even an average rate. While their quarterback swap may alleviate some of those woes, Pineiro is better left on the bench or the waiver wire until the offense proves it can move the ball down the field. To put things into perspective, Pineiro only has four more fantasy points than Matt Gay and five more than Spencer Shrader, both of whom have only appeared in one game.
Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) didn't return for the second half of Saturday's preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. Pineiro was forced to exit the game due to mild hamstring soreness. Head coach Dave Canales said afterwards that Pineiro is fine and the team held him out for precautionary reasons. Before exiting, Pineiro made both his extra-point attempts and a 45-yard field goal during the first half of Saturday's game. The assumption is that Pineiro should be fine for the regular season opener against the New Orleans Saints.
Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro appears to have won the starting kicker job heading into the regular season. The organization has waived undrafted free agent Harrison Mervis on Sunday. That leaves Pineiro as the only kicker on the roster, which means he should be the starter heading into the season. Last season, Pineiro connected on 25-of-29 field goal attempts while hitting 17-of-20 PATs in 15 games. He is in the final year of a two-year deal, so we'll see if he improves in 2024 and earns himself a new deal.
Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro continues to skip the portion of the team's voluntary offseason program, which has allowed undrafted rookie Harrison Mevis to shine during organized team activities. Mevis made all five of his field-goal attempts on Monday, including a long of 47 yards. Pineiro is the league's 21st-highest-paid kicker and is in the final year of his two-year, $4.1 million deal. "I'm sure Eddy has a plan for this whole thing," head coach Dave Canales said. The 28-year-old veteran missed the final two games in 2023 for the Panthers with a hamstring injury, but he's likely healthy now and should report for mandatory minicamp next month. Carolina's offense should improve with more offensive weapons in quarterback Bryce Young's second season in 2024, but fantasy managers in standard-sized leagues can avoid Pineiro on draft day.
