Cleveland Browns running back D'Onta Foreman (neck) returned to the team on Friday. On Thursday, Foreman was airlifted to a hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, after suffering a neck/head injury in practice. He took a direct blow to the head during a special teams drill and was immobilized, though he never actually lost any feeling in his extremities. Cleveland signed the 28-year-old in March to serve as depth while Nick Chubb (knee) works his way back from a devastating knee injury. He should return to the field during training camp at some point as long as the injury is not severe, and with no timetable for Chubb's return, Foreman will be vying with backfield mate Jerome Ford for touches on the Browns' offense. He's currently an NFFC afterthought at RB65, No. 223 overall, but remains intriguing in best ball formats if he can put this injury behind him, as he still had some juice in the tank playing with the Bears in 2023.
The Cleveland Browns say that X-rays and CT scans on running back D'Onta Foreman (neck) are negative, and he will be released from the hospital this afternoon and return to the team. It's very encouraging news after Foreman was immobilized following "a direct blow to the head that resulted in neck pain" before getting transported to the hospital to undergo further evaluation. The team previously added that Foreman had movement in all his extremities before he was airlifted from Thursday's practice. From a fantasy perspective, the 28-year-old veteran journeyman stands as Cleveland's No. 2 back behind Jerome Ford at the moment with starter Nick Chubb (knee) and satellite back Nyheim Hines (knee) not currently practicing. The Browns are certainly going to be cautious and likely ease Foreman back into action after such a scary incident.
Cleveland Browns running back D'Onta Foreman (neck) sustained a concerning injury during a kickoff drill, suffering a direct hit to the head that led to neck pain. The situation became alarming as he was immobilized and transported by ambulance, then airlifted to a medical center in Roanoke, Virginia, for further evaluation. Fortunately, Foreman retained movement in all his extremities. The 28-year-old is expected to be released from the hospital on Thursday afternoon as his X-rays and CT scans came back negative. The 28-year-old, who joined the Browns in March after a stint with the Chicago Bears, had his most successful season in 2022 with the Carolina Panthers, rushing for 914 yards and five touchdowns. The Browns signed Foreman to bolster their running back depth alongside Nick Chubb (knee) and Jerome Ford, which is especially important, with Chubb recovering from a season-ending knee injury. If Foreman is sidelined, Ford could become a valuable RB2, particularly early in the season, as Chubb recovers.
There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Cleveland Browns' backfield heading into this summer with running back Nick Chubb (knee) months away from having a timetable to return. Nyheim Hines (knee) is also recovering from a torn ACL as well. D'Onta Foreman figures to operate as the team's short-yardage back, while Jerome Ford could go anywhere from first in line to a specialized role while mostly helping in the passing game. Pierre Strong Jr. and John Kelly Jr. round out the RB room. The Browns have nice depth at the position, but the pecking order and specific roles are to be determined based on Chubb's availability and effectiveness. Foreman's fantasy value will hinge on Chubb as well, but in a best-case scenario if Chubb isn't ready for the start of the season, he'll be a touchdown-dependent RB3/flex.
Free-agent running back D'Onta Foreman is signing an undisclosed deal with the Cleveland Browns on Wednesday, according to sources. Foreman has played for three different teams -- the Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers and Chicago Bears -- in each of the last three seasons. The 27-year-old former third-round pick of the Houston Texans in 2017 out of Texas filled a complementary role with the Bears in 2023 and had 109 carries for 425 yards (3.9 yards per attempt) and four touchdowns while adding 11 receptions for 77 yards and another score in nine games (eight starts). He could mix in more with Jerome Ford early in 2024 in Cleveland if Nick Chubb (knee) is eased in, but at best, Foreman will likely be an RB4/5 type in fantasy.
