The Pittsburgh Steelers have released running back Boston Scott from their practice squad, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2. The veteran running back is now looking for his third team of the year after failed stints with the Steelers and Los Angeles Rams. His veteran presence and previous production in Philadelphia should help him earn a practice squad opportunity. His effectiveness has taken a step back in recent years, but he's still only a few seasons removed from providing the Eagles with 450-plus scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns. Regardless of where Scott's career takes him next, he's off the radar in all fantasy leagues.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are signing running back Boston Scott to their practice squad. Scott was released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week. He brings veteran experience to the Steelers after having spent his first six seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Scott lost a lot of his touches to D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell in 2023. He only ran the ball 20 times for 86 yards and zero touchdowns in 15 games. The Steelers only have running backs Najee Harris, Jaylen Warren (hamstring), and Cordarrelle Patterson listed on their depth chart. With Warren not 100%, Scott may have a chance to be elevated to the active roster at some point. Either way, this move is likely to be inconsequential for fantasy football.
The Rams released running back Boston Scott on Sunday. The 29-year-old veteran spent his entire career in Philadelphia before trying to earn a spot on the Rams' roster. In 73 games with the Eagles, he totaled 1,295 yards and 16 touchdowns off 302 carries, adding 71 receptions for 566 yards and a score. With that said, Scott is well respected around the National Football League. While that could mean he'll find work soon, he's got a long way to go before earning a spot on fantasy rosters.
Los Angeles Rams running back Boston Scott rushed 11 times for 34 yards in the team's final preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday. He was targeted once in the passing game but did not record a catch. Scott wasn't very efficient on his touches as he closed out his preseason. He is competing with Zach Evans for a backup role behind Kyren Williams and rookie Blake Corum. There wasn't much to see here as the Rams struggled to move the ball on offense as they went deep into their depth chart in the last preseason tuneup. Although Evans scored twice, neither Scott nor Evans really separated themselves in the preseason.
After practice, Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay reported that running back Boston Scott (leg contusion) is dealing with a "minor leg contusion," which led to him being held out of practice. However, McVay confirmed that Scott will receive a substantial workload in Saturday's preseason game. Scott performed well in last weekend's game, rushing ten times for 55 yards in the Rams' victory over the Chargers. Although Scott was the second back to see action behind Zach Evans, both were used early in the game. Scott and Evans are vying for a spot in a crowded running back room that includes Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, and Ronnie Rivers. Additionally, the Rams have bolstered their running back depth by signing SaRodorick Thompson, who is expected to join Evans and Scott as active ball carriers for the upcoming preseason game against the Houston Texans. Assuming he makes the final roster, Scott will likely serve in a backup and special teams role this season.
