According to Field Yates of ESPN, wide receiver Allen Robinson was released by the Steelers on Friday. The move helped Pittsburgh from a monetary standpoint, considering it cleared up millions in cap space. But it also allows the team to move on from the veteran wideout, who is coming off arguably his worst year in the league. Robinson has played for four teams throughout his career. In 127 regular season games, he's caught 562 passes for 7,028 yards and 43 touchdowns. The 30-year-old has also hit the 1,000-yard mark three times. That said, Robinson should have more than a few teams interested in acquiring his services. But he's not expected to be a viable fantasy asset anytime in the near future.
The Pittsburgh Steelers already released Chukwuma Okorafor, Mitch Trubisky and Pressley Harvin III, clearing nearly $13 million in 2024 salary cap space, and wide receiver Allen Robinson II is expected to be next, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. The Steelers acquired Robinson in a trade from the Rams last year under the notion that it would only be a one-year marriage considering his $11.9 million cap hit in 2024. Cutting him would save Pittsburgh $10 million with $1.9 million in dead money, so it's a no-brainer basically. He started all 17 games in 2023 and played 72% of the offensive snaps but caught just 34 passes for 280 yards and no touchdowns. Unless the team adds a veteran in free agency, Calvin Austin III is set to take over A-Rob's role in 2024.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Allen Robinson II (head) was removed from Monday's wild-card playoff game in the second half and is questionable to return to the contest while being evaluated for a possible concussion. Robinson's head snapped back and his helmet slammed onto the cold turf in Buffalo late in the third quarter and struggled to get back up. It's unlikely that the 30-year-old veteran pass-catcher will return to the field. Before getting hurt, he had two catches on his three targets for only 12 yards. In Pittsburgh's low-scoring offense in 2023, A-Rob was not on the fantasy radar at all and finished the regular season with only 34 catches on 49 targets for 280 yards and no touchdowns in his first year with the Steelers over 17 games.
