Aaron Jones Discussing Pay Cut With Packers

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones is reportedly discussing a pay cut with the organization. Jones is heading into the final year of his four-year deal with the team. He's set to make a base salary of $11.1 million with a cap hit of $17.5 million in 2024. Jones missed six games last season, but still put together solid numbers when he was healthy. The 29-year-old finished with 656 rushing yards on 142 attempts with two touchdowns in 11 games. Fellow back AJ Dillon is set to become a free agent this offseason. That being said, Jones appears to be in line to be the workhorse back next season.

Ty Chandler Now Vikings No. 1 Running Back

After the release of running back Alexander Mattison on Thursday, Minnesota Vikings running back Ty Chandler is the team's starter at the position. After the release of Dalvin Cook, Mattison operated as Minnesota's lead back in 2023, taking 180 carries for 700 yards and no rushing touchdowns. Chandler, a former fifth-round pick in 2022, served as a complementary back and saw 102 rushing attempts for 461 yards (4.5 yards per carry) and three rushing scores, adding 21 receptions for 159 additional yards in his second season. The 25-year-old was more efficient than Mattison and should have a bigger role in Minnesota's backfield in 2024, but the Vikings will likely look to add to their RB through the offseason, through either the draft or free agency, or both.

Sammis Reyes Is Healthy

Former Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Sammis Reyes (concussion) is healthy again and is free to sign with any NFL team this offseason, according to a league source. The Jaguars waived Reyes on Monday after he retired from football last August following his concussion in training camp last summer. The 28-year-old will attempt to continue his playing career in the NFL now that he's past his concussion, though. Reyes was active for 11 games (one start) in 2021 with the Washington Commanders but wasn't targeted at all in the passing game. Wherever he lands this offseason, he'll merely be providing tight end depth and won't be a lock for the 53-man regular-season roster.

Vikings Not Looking To Trade Justin Jefferson

Minnesota Vikings All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been the subject of social-media chatter lately as a potential trade candidate this offseason, but general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah said the idea of trading Jefferson is "not something that has once crossed my mind." The speculation is coming this offseason because of the fact that the two sides haven't been able to work out a long-term extension yet. The 24-year-old made the Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons in the league before playing in a career-low 10 games in 2023 due to injury. But Jefferson still managed his fourth straight 1,000-yard season despite his injury. While he'll remain an elite WR1 in fantasy heading into drafts this fall, whether quarterback Kirk Cousins re-signs in free agency will be a major talking point as it relates to Jefferson this offseason.

Packers "Absolutely" Expect Aaron Jones Back In 2024

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said he "absolutely" expects running back Aaron Jones to be back with the team next season. Jones is heading into the final year of the four-year, $48 million deal he signed in 2021. He injured his hamstring in Week 1 of the regular season and ended up missing a total of six games due to injuries. The 29-year-old was an extremely frustrating fantasy play for the majority of the season while also sharing touches with AJ Dillon, but he broke out late in the regular season and into the playoffs with five straight 100-yard games and three rushing scores to make fantasy managers happy they stuck with him. In total, Jones averaged a decent 4.6 yards per carry for 656 rushing yards (his fewest since his rookie year in 2017) and only two rushing TDs for the second straight season. His contributions in the passing game (30 catches for 233 yards) raise his fantasy ceiling. If Jones can stay healthy in 2024, he'll have a good shot at returning to the 1,000-yard mark in an improving Packers offense.
