As expected, the Las Vegas Raiders didn't use the franchise tag on running back Josh Jacobs by the deadline on Tuesday. It's not surprising at all that the Raiders elected not to use the franchise tag on Jacobs after he regressed in 2023, as the tag would have cost them $14.1 million for the 2024 season. Jacobs will hit the open market next week when free agency kicks off, joining a strong group of RBs that will include Saquon Barkley, Derrick Henry, Austin Ekeler, Tony Pollard and D'Andre Swift. We'll have a better idea of Jacobs' 2024 fantasy value when we know where he'll be playing, but he'll most likely be a risk/reward RB1. He played in 13 games in 2023 and finished with a career-low 805 rushing yards and six rushing TDs a year after leading the NFL with 1,653 rushing yards in 2022.

Green Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon might've played his last season with the organization. Dillon is set to become a free agent this offseason and it doesn't sound like the organization is too eager to bring Dillon back next season. The former second-round pick struggled to establish himself during his contract season. Dillon rushed 178 times for 613 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games. Dillon received plenty of chances with fellow back Aaron Jones missing six games. Despite the extra attempts, Dillon averaged a career-low 3.4 yards per carry. He should have plenty of interest as a backup, but Dillon will have a tough time finding himself a lead back role heading into next season.

Las Vegas Raiders general manager Tom Telesco said the team is going to try and bring back impending free-agent running back Josh Jacobs this offseason. "We're going to explore pretty hard and see if we can bring him back," Telesco said. After posting a league-high 1,653 rushing yards and a career-high-tying 12 rushing touchdowns in 2022, Jacobs played in just 13 games in 2023 due to injuries and finished with a career-low 805 rushing yards (3.5 yards per carry) and six rushing TDs on 233 attempts. Jacobs has cleared 1,000 yards rushing in three of his five NFL seasons and still has RB1 upside, but his fantasy stock is going to be down this fall, especially if he leaves Vegas and lands in a less favorable situation.

After a 1,653-yard rushing season in 2022, Jacobs rushed for just 805 yards on 3.5 yards per carry in 2023. He showed clear signs of regression in his fifth NFL season, so no team is likely to break the bank for a player at a devalued position. Either way, Jacobs' offseason movement is worth monitoring ahead of the 2024 NFL season. He should have fantasy value whether he stays put or lands somewhere else.

If the Raiders want to prevent Jacobs from becoming a free agent on March 13, they could place the franchise tag on him for $13.669 million (by March 5) in 2024. The Raiders are projected to have around $35.2 million in salary cap space this year, but that's still a large cap hit to carry for a RB in today's game. Jacobs is also coming off career-lows in rushing yards (805), yards per carry (3.5) and yards from scrimmage (1,101) and missed the final four games due to a quadriceps injury. If they don't bring Jacobs back, they'd be handing the starting role to Zamir White, who played well last year in Jacobs' absence. But Jacobs was an All-Pro in 2022 and could easily bounce back in 2024 at just 26 years old.
