Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez was hit on the right knee Saturday by Minnesota Twins starter Joe Ryan. Alvarez initially stayed in the game but was clearly laboring when running the bases. The team removed Alvarez in the eighth inning when Grae Kessinger pinch-hit for him. There was no immediate word on the extent of the injury. Alvarez is hitting .298 with 19 home runs, 50 RBI, four stolen bases and 56 runs scored.
Houston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez smacked this third home run in as many games, a solo shot, on Wednesday night along with two RBI doubles in a 9-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. The big lefty has been sizzling hot since the beginning of June and has carried his hot streak over to July with a 6-for-11 line with three home runs this month. The 27-year-old is in his prime and fantasy managers are all here for it. After an uncharacteristic slow start to the season, Alvarez is now on pace to have career numbers across the board along with a career-high in games played. If he continues this domination with the bat he could easily finish in the top 3 for AL MVP once again this season.
Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez stayed hot on Tuesday versus the Toronto Blue Jays. The slugger went 2-for-4 on the evening with a pair of runs and a three-run home run. The home run would be his second in as many games. Alvarez has been on fire over the past month, hitting .337 with seven homers and 21 RBI. Despite a slow start to the season, Alvarez is coming around and in a big way for an Astros offense that can certainly use it. Alvarez is one of the hottest hitters in the game right now and continues to be one of the best sluggers in the league that also will not hurt managers batting average. He should continue to be one of the best bats in the game moving forward.
Houston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez started July on the right note in Monday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays. Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and a walk. Alvarez added some insurance when he took a ninth-inning Zach Pop fastball just over the left-center wall. The 27-year-old has provided what fantasy managers were expecting when they drafted him as a high-end fantasy option, slashing .294/.372/.528 with 17 HR, 49 runs scored, 43 RBI, and four stolen bases in 352 plate appearances. The stolen bases are a bit of a surprise, but fantasy managers will take any they can get, as they were only expecting four-category production from Alvarez.
Houston Astros outfielder/designated hitter Yordan Alvarez (personal) is serving as the DH and is batting third for the Astros on Thursday against the Chicago White Sox and right-hander Chris Flexen. Alvarez had to leave the team the last two days due to a family matter, but apparently he has it resolved and is now available again to plug back into all starting fantasy lineups. Not only is it a great matchup for Alvarez, he's hitting .286 in his career against Flexen in 14 at-bats with two home runs and five RBI for a 1.089 OPS. The 26-year-old All-Star slugger has been hot of late, too, going 19-for-52 (.365) with five home runs, five doubles, a triple, 15 RBI and 12 runs scored in 14 games in the month of June. The Cuban left-handed hitter is one of the most reliable hitters in the big leagues with a .290 average (79-for-272) on the season.
