Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz will not play to start the second half of the season on Friday in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees due to a personal matter. With Diaz away from the team, Isaac Paredes will move across the diamond to first base and will bat second, while Jose Caballero will man the hot corner and bat eighth against Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole. Richie Palacios is at second base and is batting leadoff for the Rays. It remains to be seen when Diaz will be back in Tampa's starting lineup, so fantasy managers will want to check back on Saturday before returning him to their starting lineups. The 32-year-old could be on the trade block this summer with the Rays falling out of contention. Diaz is a must-start when he's active and hit .273 (104-for-381) with eight homers, 46 RBI and 35 runs scored in 94 games in the first half.
The Tampa Bay Rays will listen to trade offers on outfielder Randy Arozarena, first baseman Yandy Diaz and third baseman Isaac Paredes in the right deal with the July 30 deadline quickly approaching. According to sources, the Rays and Seattle Mariners have yet to engage in serious dialogue about Seattle's interest in adding an impact bat this summer, but the two teams are frequent trading partners and talks could advance in the coming days as the second half of the 2024 season gets underway. It's just speculation right now, but it's something to keep an eye on. Arozarena, a first-time All-Star last year, has tanked in 2024 and is heading into the second half hitting just .202 (66-for-326), although he does have 12 homers, 31 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 93 games. A change of scenery to a contender could get him back on track in the second half.
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz was 3-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Diaz took rookie right-hander Paul Skenes deep on the first pitch of the game for his sixth home run of the season. The 32-year-old endured a quiet start to the campaign, but he is currently riding a 16-game hitting streak. Overall, Diaz is slashing .271/.331/.384 with 36 RBI and 30 runs scored. He may not repeat last year's career numbers, but he should be a productive source of counting stats and ratios for the remainder of the season.
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz has been dropped from leadoff to the two-hole on Tuesday against the visiting Oakland Athletics and right-hander Mitch Spence. Outfielder Richie Palacios is starting in right field and will take over the leadoff duties for Diaz. Almost all of Diaz's at-bats this year have come in the top spot of the batting order for the Rays, but his move down one spot comes during what has so far been a disappointing year for Diaz's standards. He's batting .249/.316/.354 with four home runs, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored in 231 plate appearances. However, Diaz has been more himself this month, going 26-for-91 (.286) with three homers, five doubles and 14 RBI in 23 games. The move down one spot in the batting order shouldn't worry fantasy managers at all. Diaz has never faced Spence in his career.
Tampa Bay Rays first basement Yandy Diaz is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Diaz doubled as part of an 8-1 loss on Friday out of the leadoff spot but will take a seat to begin the weekend tilt. Jonathan Aranda will take over at first base and hit out of the cleanup spot on Saturday. It's been a solid yet unspectacular season for the 32-year-old on the heels of a massive 2023 campaign. Diaz is hitting .255 with four homers and a .683 OPS across 51 games on the season, numbers that are well below his .330 average and 22 homers alongside a .932 OPS in an even 600 plate appearances a season ago. The Rays sit at 25-27 entering Saturday's contest.
