St. Louis Cardinals starting pitchers Kyle Gibson and Lance Lynn had their club options declined and will be headed to free agency. Gibson logged 169 1/3 innings in his debut season in St. Louis with a 8-8 record, 4.24 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and a 68:151 BB:K ratio. Lynn posted a 3.84 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP with a 7-4 record across 117 1/3 innings last season. Both remained in the starting rotation the entire season. In the same move, the Cardinals also declined the 2025 club option for pitcher Kenyan Middleton. Middleton logged only five innings in the minor leagues this season due to a forearm injury. This transaction allows the Cardinals to trim substantial payroll off of their pitching staff. Currently, the Cardinals rotation consists of Miles Mikolas, Erick Fedde, Sonny Gray, Andre Pallante, and Michael McGreevy.
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson (back) is listed as the team's probable starting pitcher on Tuesday versus the visiting Atlanta Braves. Gibson was scratched from his last scheduled outing on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins due to back tightness, but it appears the injury won't cause him to miss anymore time or put him on the injured list. Although the 36-year-old veteran has limited fantasy upside due to his 18.8% career strikeout rate, he's been trending up of late and hasn't allowed more than three earned runs in each of his last five starts. In three outings in June, he's allowed six earned runs on 15 hits while walking six and fanning 21 in 18 2/3 frames. Gibson will be a bit more risky for fantasy managers on Tuesday, but he'll also be facing a Braves team that is much less dangerous with no Ronald Acuna Jr.
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson (back) said on Thursday morning that he's fine and half joked that he's going to try and talk his way into the game on Thursday night. Gibson was scratched from his scheduled start on Wednesday against the Miami Marlins due to back tightness, but it may not be serious enough to land him on the 15-day injured list. There's still a chance the Cardinals play it safe, though, and put the 36-year-old veteran on the IL. It's unclear when he'll be able to take the mound next. The former 22nd overall pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2009 out of Missouri has been decent in his first year in St. Louis in 2024, going 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA (4.14 FIP) and 1.19 WHIP with 73 strikeouts and 31 walks in 83 2/3 innings over 14 starts.
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Kyle Gibson turned in a solid start in a 7-4 loss to the Houston Astros on Monday. Gibson allowed three runs on five hits over five innings while striking out eight and walking three. He managed to escape with a no-decision in the start, holding his record at 4-2 on the year. Gibson's eight strikeouts fell just one short of his season-high of nine which he set back on April 30 against the Detroit Tigers. Overall, Gibson has a 3.69 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 60 strikeouts over 70 2/3 innings of work in his first season with the Cardinals. He is worth a look as a streaming option in fantasy when he has favorable matchups.
