Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) said he's just taking everything day by day at this point and hasn't swung a bat since his last minor-league rehab game on June 20. Jung is still sore but everything remains fine structurally in his surgically repaired wrist after he visited with a specialist. While it's good news that Jung doesn't have any structural damage to his wrist, it's also frustrating and worrisome that he's still dealing with pain. At this point, there's no timetable for his return to a minor-league rehab assignment, let alone to the big-league roster. We wouldn't be surprised if Jung isn't back with the Rangers until August. Jung has proven to be injury-prone early in his career, but his elite power in a stacked Rangers lineup makes him stash-worthy in all fantasy formats. Josh Smith will continue to benefit from regular playing time for however long Jung remains on the shelf.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) had his hitting progression pushed back again on Saturday, with manager Bruce Bochy saying that Jung will visit with a specialist on Monday to evaluate the readiness of his surgically-repaired right wrist. Bochy said Jung will not test the wrist in batting practice this weekend as originally planned. Because he will require a ramp-up of at least seven to 10 days that could include more minor-league rehab games once he's medically cleared, the delay makes it possible that he won't be ready to return to Texas' active roster until after the All-Star break. The 26-year-old has been out since suffering a fractured right wrist on a hit-by-pitch on April 1 and had his first rehab assignment shut down last week due to a flare-up of tendon inflammation above the surgery site. Fantasy managers must remain patient and keep the right-handed slugger stashed in all leagues.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is having a tough time getting back to full health. The young slugger wants to get back in the lineup, but he's uncertain when that'll be because his wrist isn't 100 percent yet. The Rangers are hopeful that Jung can begin swinging the bat this weekend. When healthy, Jung will be eased back into action and will receive plenty of rest days. Jung hasn't played since fracturing his wrist on April 1, which resulted in surgery. At this point, fantasy managers shouldn't expect to get a ton from Jung this season. The Rangers aren't going to push their young slugger out there until he's fully ready to play.
Texas Rangers third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is back with the team on Wednesday in Milwaukee. Jung met with a surgeon in Phoenix on Tuesday and got good reports on the structural status of his bone. He's just dealing with soreness and doesn't have any damage, and he expects to start swinging a bat again in the next couple of days. The 26-year-old was dealing with some inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, which pushed back his activation from the 60-day injured list just a bit. Jung isn't going to be back in the big leagues by this weekend, but his return could come next week. If for some reason he's sitting on your league's waiver wire, pick him up immediately. Jung, a former eighth overall pick, was a first-time All-Star in 2023 when he hit 23 home runs and 70 RBI in 122 games.
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said before Tuesday's game against the hosting Milwaukee Brewers that third baseman Josh Jung (wrist) is heading back to Texas to get checked out and "make sure everything's fine." Bochy said it's possible that Jung rejoins the club on this road trip, which concludes with Sunday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles, but he can't answer that until he gets checked out. Barring any setbacks in his evaluation, Jung is still a candidate to rejoin the major-league roster before the end of June. Josh Smith has been a great streaming option for fantasy managers in the interim, slashing .302/.396/.474 with seven home runs, 17 doubles, 32 RBI, and four stolen bases across 232 at-bats for the Rangers this season, but he'll need to find playing time in other spots than the hot corner once Jung is back in the lineup.
