Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday. Foley didn't allow a baserunner and struck out a pair in his inning of work. The 28-year-old hasn't been dominant in the closer role, but he's been the best Detroit has and has gotten the job done most of the time, converting on 27 of his 31 save chances. With the Tigers playing better of late, Foley has actually become one of the best sources of saves in September, notching eight of them in the month. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers are happy with Foley as their closer come next year because if they are he should be a relatively sought-after fantasy asset.
Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley picked up his 21st save of the season on Saturday as the Tigers beat the Oakland Athletics 2-1. Foley replaced Sean Guenther with one out in the ninth, gave up a single and recorded one strikeout on his way to securing the save. Foley now has a 2.92 ERA and ranks 10th in the AL in saves. With 21 saves in 24 opportunities, Foley has shown he can slam the door shut when given the opportunity. His fantasy value is still held back by the limited amount of opportunities he has with the Tigers, but he remains a solid option when given the chance. Fantasy managers looking for help in the closer role may want to look at Foley for the coming week as he may have more opportunities than normal coming up with the Colorado Rockies set to visit Detroit this week.
Detroit Tigers closer Jason Foley secured a save in Thursday's win over the visiting Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park, striking out one batter in a clean ninth inning. Somewhat shockingly, it was his first converted save since way back on July 10. Foley induced a groundout from M's utility man Dylan Moore for the final out, safeguarding the Tigers' 2-1 win over Seattle on Thursday. The hard-throwing 28-year-old right-hander remains the best bet for saves out of Detroit's bullpen, but he does also have eight holds this year, so he hasn't been restricted to closing duties. Overall, Foley has a 3.48 ERA and 1.30 WHIP with 32 punchouts and 15 walks in 44 frames while going 16-for-19 on save chances for the Tigers this year.
Detroit Tigers right-hander Jason Foley got the final out of a 6-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays to earn the save on Friday. With runners on first and third, Foley needed just three pitches to induce a Danny Jansen groundout to secure the win for his team. The 28-year-old has been steady at the back of the Detroit bullpen this season, posting a 2-1 record, 2.41 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 18 2/3 innings of work while converting 11 of his 12 save opportunities. While he doesn't post big strikeout numbers, Foley has fantasy value as Detroit's primary closer moving forward.
Detroit Tigers relief pitcher Jason Foley earned his 10th save of the season in Monday's 6-5 win over the Marlins. Foley came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by one and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with a strikeout. After starting the season as the team's closer, the Tigers have mixed up their bullpen usage over the past couple of weeks. However, Foley has been the team's best reliever, converting all but one save opportunity with a 2.20 ERA, an 8.27 K/9 rate, and a 3.86 BB/9 rate. He still seems like the pitcher to roster for fantasy purposes and may be able to earn the closer's role back if he can string together several solid performances.
