San Diego Padres infielder Ha-Seong Kim (shoulder) is set to undergo an MRI after exiting early during Sunday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Kim injured his right shoulder while diving back into first base on a pickoff attempt. The organization is uncertain about the severity of the injury which is why they'll need additional testing done on Monday. Tyler Wade took over at shortstop over Sunday's game. The assumption is that he'll see increased playing time until Kim is back in the mix. Wade is hitting .241 with eight RBI this season, so he'll be fine for a few games, but isn't a long term solution if Kim is forced to miss an extended period of time.

San Diego Padres shortstop Ha-Seong Kim and catcher Kyle Higashioka will both head to the bench on Wednesday as the team looks for a three-game sweep of the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at Petco Field. Tyler Wade will start at the 6 and bat ninth, while Luis Campusano will do the catching and hit eighth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Kim hasn't been nearly as effective as he was in his breakout 2023 season while batting leadoff for the Friars. The 28-year-old South Korean is hitting near the bottom of the lineup this year, but he remains useful in fantasy for his speed (22 stolen bases). After a strong start to the year, Campusano has struggled offensively, allowing Kyle Higashioka to become SD's favored backstop. Higashioka is hitting only .224 (38-for-170), but he already has a career-high 14 homers in his first year in San Diego.

Ortiz at PNC Park. Kim was held out of the starting lineup for the first two games of the series in Pittsburgh due to right-triceps soreness, but the 28-year-old infielder came off the bench on Wednesday to replace the injured Jurickson Profar (knee) in the sixth inning and went 1-for-1 with a walk, stolen base and run scored, so it's not that big of a surprise that he's back in the starting lineup a day later. He hasn't been quite as good as he was in 2023, but Kim is still useful in most fantasy leagues, mainly for his speed (21 stolen bases). The South Korean native is currently slashing .225/.325/.358 with 10 homers, 44 RBI and 58 runs scored in 374 at-bats.

Tyler Wade will get another start at shortstop for the Friars and will bat ninth against Pirates left-handed veteran Marco Gonzales. Kim came down with soreness in his right triceps muscle recently and was also held out of Tuesday's series opener against the Bucs. The 28-year-old said that he's unsure when he'll be able to return to action, so for now, fantasy managers should consider the speedy infielder day-to-day. Especially in another lefty-on-lefty matchup, Wade should be ignored for DFS purposes at the bottom of the batting order. He's still searching for his first homer in 2024 and is hitting .245/.322/.264 with eight RBI and eight steals in 106 at-bats.

Fantasy managers will want to check back soon for more information on Kim as to why he's not playing on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Korean infielder is having a down year in 2024 compared to his begin 2023 campaign as SD's primary leadoff man, but he's still contributed 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases in 111 games as a solid middle-infield depth option in fantasy leagues. Wade will be a DFS sleeper to avoid on Tuesday. He has seven steals in 103 at-bats but is also searching for his first home run and will be in a lefty-lefty matchup in this one.UPDATE: Kim said he has soreness in his right triceps, which he began feeling on Monday and was still feeling when he took some swings on Tuesday. He's unsure of his status for Wednesday or moving forward.
