One day after hitting a grand slam, Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson struck again in Tuesday's 9-5 win over the Pirates. Swanson went 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and two walks. The 30-year-old crushed a fourth-inning Jared Jones fastball into the right-center seats for his 12th long ball of the season. Swanson has had a disappointing season from a fantasy perspective. The good news is that he has put together a strong August, slashing .276/.356/.474with three HR and seven stolen bases in 76 at-bats. Fantasy managers who held onto Swanson all season long have been rewarded lately just as the fantasy playoffs are approaching.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson went 1-for-4 on Monday with a walk and two runs scored in his team's blowout win 18-8 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. His lone hit was a grand slam, giving him four RBI on the day. Swanson has had an underwhelming season up until this point, slashing .228/.299/.361 with 11 homers and 47 RBI in 121 games (421 at-bats). Hopefully, this can mark a turnaround for Swanson, and he can finish the season off strong as the Cubs are looking to qualify for the postseason. Fantasy managers searching for the category runs can look to add Swanson, as he's scored eight runs over his last seven games.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson had a nice game on Thursday, going 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and two stolen bases in a 10-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. Swanson is now up to 10 homers and 12 steals on the season, which is solid but underwhelming for the 30-year-old. Unfortunately, the rest of his stats are subpar at best, making him a bit of a deadweight in fantasy this season. He has managed a .754 OPS in August, so maybe he's making a bit of a late-season push, but at this point he doesn't need to be rostered in any standard-size leagues and should be left for the deeper ones.
The Chicago Cubs activated shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) from the 10-day injured list on Monday and optioned rookie outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move. The team also optioned second baseman Miles Mastrobuoni to Iowa. The Cubs had the day off on Monday, but Swanson will return for Tuesday's series opener against the Atlanta Braves. Swanson will return to everyday duties at shortstop for the Cubs after missing some time with a knee injury. His fantasy managers will be hoping that he can pick it up at the plate now that he's healthy, as he was hitting just .209/.285/.341 with four home runs, 12 RBI, four stolen bases and 20 runs scored in 129 at-bats before landing on the injured list.
Chicago Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson (knee) is taking live batting practice against left-handers Drew Smyly (hip) and Jordan Wicks (forearm) on Friday. Swanson is ramping up his baseball activities this week after being put on the 10-day injured list last week with a right-knee injury. The 30-year-old's injury isn't believed to be all that serious, so he certainly has a chance to come off the IL when he's eligible on Saturday. The Cubs could really use him back, as middle infielder Nico Hoerner (hamstring) is missing his fourth straight game on Friday versus the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates with a left-hamstring ailment. Until one of Swanson or Hoerner can return, Miles Mastrobuoni will continue manning the 6 in Chicago. Swanson's fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick things up when he returns, as he was hitting just .209 (27-for-129) with four homers, 12 RBI and four steals before his injury.
