Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello is having his next start pushed back to next Wednesday in Miami against the Marlins. Josh Winckowski will now make the start on Sunday versus the visiting San Diego Padres. The move deprives fantasy managers of a two-start week with Bello. The 25-year-old had a rough last start on Tuesday in a loss to the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays, surrendering seven earned runs on five hits while walking three in just 2 1/3 innings. The good news for Bello and his fantasy managers is that manager Alex Cora said he's not dealing with an injury, so hopefully the extra time off between starts will help him going into a plus matchup against the Fish next week. Projected as a potential breakout starter by many in spring training, Bello has failed to live up to those expectations and is currently 7-5 with a 5.55 ERA, a 1.47 WHIP and a 64:29 K:BB in 71 1/3 innings and 14 starts in his third year in the majors.
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello turned in a quality start in his team's 7-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. Bello allowed two runs on seven hits over six innings while striking out six and walking two. He earned the win in the contest, upping his record to 7-4 in 2024, to go along with a 4.83 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 62 strikeouts across 69 innings of work. Bello got off to a hot start in 2024, posting a 2.91 ERA in April, but he has struggled since with a 5.66 ERA in May and a 6.23 ERA thus far in June. Hopefully Wednesday's performance against Toronto will get him back on track. Fantasy gamers should still be rostering Bello but he has emerged as more of a matchup play moving forward.
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Brayan Bello went six innings Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks while striking out six in an 8-5 victory over the Rays. It was just the righty's second quality start of the season in eight starts, but he's now 5-2 on the year with a 4.04 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 13.7% K-BB%. He's slated to square off against the Orioles in divisional matchup on the road next Tuesday. The 25-year-old faced them in early April, going five-and-a-third innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out three batters.
The Boston Red Sox reinstated right-hander Brayan Bello (lat) from the 15-day injured list on Sunday and optioned right-hander Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester after Saturday's game in a corresponding move. Bello will return to the mound on Mother's Day to start on Sunday versus the visiting Washington Nationals. The 24-year-old was initially put on the injured list on April 24 with right-lat tightness. In his lone minor-league rehab start for Double-A Portland on Tuesday, Bello gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out five in just 2 2/3 innings. Bello went 3-1 with a solid 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in his five starts before going on the shelf and he'll have a good matchup against the Nationals, but the fact he only went 2 2/3 frames in his lone rehab start probably makes him a low-upside fantasy play in his first start back on Sunday.
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (lat) said he feels great and is pain-free and is ready to start on Sunday at Fenway Park against the visiting Washington Nationals. We'll see what the Red Sox have to say about that after Bello allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out five batters in only 2 2/3 innings in a minor-league rehab start for Double-A Portland on Tuesday. The good news is that Bello feels fully healthy, but even if he's activated from the injured list and returns on Sunday in a good matchup against the Nats, he'll be a shaky fantasy option for Sunday's slate of games in his first start back. Before landing on the IL, the 24-year-old had a nice 3.04 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with 26 strikeouts in 26 2/3 frames over five starts. If Bello is on your league's waiver wire, scoop him up.
